If you are driving someone else's car, registered in their name, yet their car isn't insured & you were to get pulled over, who would get the ticket for no insurance, legally? The reason is I ask is because my car is going to need worked on. My boyfriend usually lets me drive his car when mine is being worked on. But his car isn't insured. I have no other way around. I'm afraid if I were to get in a road block or something & the car isn't insured, that I'd get a ticket. So I'm wondering if I'd get the ticket or if the owner of the car (the one it's registered to) would get the ticket. If you know (for a fact), please answer. Thanks!

I will brb. Here is the Manual from the Tennessee DMV in pdf format: http://tennessee.gov/safety/publications/05Manual.pdf

Please look under Financial Responsibilty, an operator of a motor vehicle who cannot produce Evidence of inusrance to a police officer when requested to do so can be cited for a Class C Misdemeanor. Also, note that your Driver's license could be in jeopardy. But even if you were convicted of driving a motor vehicle withiout evidence of Insurance they have what is known in Tenneessee as a Restoration to your driving privileges if you produce within a certain time evidence of Financial Responsiblilty. Better get that boyfriend on the ball or he could be in trouble. Just take your time and read the Manual under Financial Repsonibilty, it is my understanding that either the owner or operator may be charged for driving without proof of insurance.

BTW, my sister was charged with this offense in the State of Nevada. She showed up in court for the trial. The Judge told her if she could provide Proof of insurance in Court he would drop the case. I ran her Car insurance down to her at the Court, charges were dropped. No fine, no time. I suspect Tennessee would not differ on that issue.

Good question. I don't believe ANYWHERE in the United States a car can be driven by anyone when it is uninsured. Probably they'd go after your boyfriend, but I'm pretty sure you'd get pulled through the ringer, too. No friends who can take you somewhere? Busses? A bike, even?

Try finding a boy friend that will abide by the law and carry insurance.!!! We don't need these type of people driving on the streets.!!!
