Is the end all be all to what is what? I would say it is just some religious folk who say what is and isn't "Christian", but it extends to all aspects of belief, or lack thereof, on here. I feel pretty intelligent, but I don't feel I am the ultimate authority on the truth of all things. I am just curious as to what creates this behavior. Any thoughts?

Opinions are just that. Unfortunately some folk with strong opinions feel that if others disagree with them it is a personal attack. This shows a lack of confidence in what they believe and a need to protect it. I like to read different opinions. That is what makes life interesting. How dull life would be if we were all the same.

So if I'm wrong then my belief system is wrong. If my belief system is wrong then I look foolish. Looking/Feeling foolish brings about anger, resentment, depression, worthlessness, and all those feelings that don't make us feel good. Nobody likes having their whole belief system shattered, and that's how a lot of people on here see things. They don't see things as expanding their belief system, just people saying they need to reject their belief system and accept a completely new one - even if there are a lot of similarities.

lol. I agree. I also think it's really quite humorous and sad at the same time when those opinions were formed by a video on youtube.

To answer your question, I think it comes from fear. I am perfectly capable of admitting that I may be wrong in my beliefs and that takes the fear out of things. If I felt like I HAD to be right and that I HAD to KNOW I was right, I would be at odds with myself. No one can profess true knowledge when it comes to religion. People who do are lying to themselves out of fear of what would happen if they admitted they might be wrong.

Perhaps it's just their way of putting it across. Remember that a lot of people on here are very much one way or another, two sides of the fence and probably get a little defensive about the whole thing.

When talking solely about opinions one is as good as another. I tend to avoid questions about opinion because they're more or less a waste of time (except of course when they're asking for them. Like yours. And then I'll toss mine into the pile.) I mean you can't debate an opinion can you?

I'll go with pride. All too often it's difficult to realize the difference between pride and self-confidence. I refer back to my Father in Heaven's example -- he wasn't 'proud' of His only Begotten -- he was 'well-pleased'. I love that phrase -- it seems to denote pleasure, delight and humility.
Thanks for the thought.
Merry Christmas

maybe they had a bad childhood. I just think it has to do with what they have going or not going in their life. Everyone has a truth its mostly their own. Sometimes we are blind to it. Isn't truth subjective.

Stating ones opinion does not make it right. If you ask a question, you are asking for an opinion.
