Two days after Thanksgiving, my newlywed wife and I just had a wedding reception with my family. Guess which gift was more popular, the blender or the $50 check.

How wonderful to hear that someone has the spirit of Christmas, well done....
Here is my suggestion......
Go to your nearest poor community and find a run down school.
Speak to the Head Teacher and ask which students come from the most struggling family. Depending on how much you want to spend buy perhaps a large basket of food items, plus treats and perhaps one or two small presents. The Head teacher should keep this quiet and you could do this anonymous and leave a note from Santa.
Many years ago when I had some surplus money I did this and left a card with some money in it and signed it from Santa, later I heard from the children via other children what they had received. Oh boy it made me feel so humble.
When I was a child someone did this for us and we never forgot it, it was a great surprise and we never found out who it was.
I wish you joy in your search, sometimes we just don't realise how families even in our own neighbourhood struggle through Christmas. Godbless....xx

Adopt a family who may not have a Christmas. Many agencies such as the Salvation Army or St. Vincent DePaul can give you names of families who otherwise would not get gifts for themselve or their kids. What a noble cause. Bless you.

adopt a soldier Here Is a myspace page and more info
http://www.myspace.com/adoptasoldier
If you are interested in adopting a soldier please send (through regular EMAIL) your contact information (Name, Phone, Email, and Mailing Address) along with which type of adoption you would like to do to
adoptasoldiernow@mac.com
Here are your options:
1. Regular Adoption: You can sign up to adopt a deployed soldier. By doing this you agree to send regular letters, cards for every holiday including birthdays and send a care package once a month.
2. Adopt a Wounded Soldier: There are many soldiers that have been injured and returned home. They are needing many different things since they have returned home. First and foremost they need money as well as letters and packages. We are working to build homes for the many wounded soldiers that are returning home that have no where to return to. We are currently building a home in Springhill, LA for SPC Kyle Burleson. We are currently raising funds to build a home for Bobby and Tommy Guinn who are currently in the Dallas VA Medical Center. They are from Overton Texas and in desparate need of a home.
3. Send Money: If you don't have time to give you are always welcome to send money that will be used to care for the soldiers.
4. Volunteer: We need various volunteers to help us adopt soldiers in your local communities. We also need help marketing, please tell all of your friends and family to help out. (If you would like a banner or letter to send out contact us and we will send this to you)
5. Letters: If you would just like to send letters or cards that is an option as well. We will be forming a Birthday Committee soon so that soldiers will receive several cards and letters on their birthday.
Thanks for your support!

Rising Fountains is a great organization. I send them school supplies every month because the kids have NOTHING. I know they are also trying to raise funds to purchase one vehicle that can drive kids to and from the hospital. (Right now they are using a donkey cart!)
Mathias Zimba is the director and a stand up guy. My organization (www.thepencilproject.com) works with him alot.
You can visit him at www.risingfountains.org
