Obviously the folks who have commented so far are telling you what you want to hear, and none are actually in the military. I just separated this summer from the Air Force. Every branch of service requires you to pass a hearing screen. If you are deaf in one ear, it is highly likely that you will be medically disqualified. Two things: (1) there is no way you can lie your way successfully through the hearing screen, you either hear the sound or you don't ... you can't cheat; and (2) if you are willing to lie I'm not sure you have the character required to join. I don't mean to be harsh, but I wouldn't accept that kind of behavior from one of my airmen, and I doubt any other officer would either. If you somehow managed to slip through the cracks on a lie, you would eventually be found out, and would be punished under the UCMJ for fraudulent enlistment. I don't know how much you know about the Uniform Code of Military Justice, but it is very direct and leaves no gray areas for punishment. You would do time.

Now the Army is having a harder time filling their ranks and may waive the deafness, but you'd have to ask a recruiter specifically about it. Again, I don't mean to shatter your dreams, but I would suggest you start pursuing other dreams.

Your hearing will be tested in both ears prior to being accepted, so lying, ain't going to help you. The Bush Admin may be desperate for soldiers, but not that desperate. For your own safety you will be kept out. Why not try contributing in a different way, join the red cross, or volunteer for one of the organizations that sends care packages to troops in other nations or at a military hospital. You can be a part of the US Army without really being in the ARMY. Good luck!

You need to talk to a recruiter. The standards are changing all of the time. There are possible waivers as well. You can chat with a recruiter online for those types of questions.

My wife use to recruit for the Army and things change constantly.

Good luck! If you cant serve in the military then there are still other possible ways of supporting the military and defending your country.

lying is NOT the answer. there are medical standards for a reason, and serving is a privilege, not a right.

when you lie, you WILL be caught. besides, you have to take a hearing test and you will be found out anyway. depends on the severity of hearing loss whether or not you will be DQd.

There is a waiver for everything.
Ask a recruiter, they know all the ins and outs. Don't lie to join, that's called a "fraudulent enlistment" and they will kick you out for that when they find out (and make you pay back any pay and entitlements you've already collected)

You won't be able to lie to the government, even if you wanted to. At MEPS you get an in depth hearing test... so I would check with a recruiter to see what your options are.

I think they could still accept you even if your deaf in the left ear.

it really depends on how deaf your left ear is. They will test your hearing at MEPS and if you aren't cut for it they will send you back and there is nothing you can do about it.

You should be able to man.

It's usually only when a person has PHYSICAL disabilities that they do not accept you into the Armed forces; such as problems with limbs, bones, joints, etc, as well as any chronic illnesses.
