I'm looking for a way to play ps2 games in my 40Gb ps3. I know it doesn't come with the necessary chip to do direct emulation but maybe it could do some software emu like the one in the 80Gb version. Maybe I can get someone with an 80gb ps3 transfer me the emulator into my Hard drive & play my ps2 games. If this is the solution how do i do it? Or is there another solution?? help plz!

As far as I know, transferring the emulator software to a 40GB PS3 is not possible. If you wanted backward compatibility, you had to get the 20GB, 60GB, or 80GB PS3's.

Sony may add future updates for the 40GB PS3 that may add some backward compatibility, but I don't know for sure.

PS3's haven't even been modded yet and I doubt that they will ever be modded, so I also doubt that you will be able to transfer the emulator software to the 40GB PS3.

The emulator that the 80GB PS3 uses still relies on one of the main PS2 processors. Since the 40GB PS3 has neither of these, the emulator from the 80GB PS3 won't work at all.

Sony has stated they have no plans to ever release a PS2 emulator for the 40GB PS3s. If you really wanted PS2 backwards compatibility you should not have bought the 40GB PS3.

According to a press release from Sony, if you want to play PS2 games, Sony recommends buying a PS2. Isn't that nice?
