I didn't exactly purchase Vista, I bought a PC that came with it. I didn't even know what Vista looked like when I got the computer.

When I found out how Vista was, I was glad I hadn't actually purchased it.

The thing that appealed to me the most was the new disk management that allows you to shrink, delete, and create partitions without losing data all with the hard drive still mounted. (Sad I know)
This helped me shrink the C drive so I could dual-boot with Linux.

I read the tech press and have to admit that there didn't seem to be any must have features in Vista.

My introduction came pre installed on a new laptop and I was pleasantly surprised.

I love the instant search and indexing.

Press the windows key and start typing the first few letters of whatever program or file you wish to find and most of the time Vista will deliver.

Turn on natural language search and you can type:

photos taken last week

or

photos tag reflections

Why it isn't on by default I do not know.

The eye candy is eye candy. Nothing more.

That's it. Can't think of anything else that makes it better that it's predecessor.

I like Vista and have found it stable if a little slow at copying large amounts of data. And why is Vista Business unable to play DVD's out of the box?

I am glad it's on my laptop but wouldn't pay to upgrade my XP desktop.

i got vista because i wanted to play dx10 games and dx10 is only supported in vista which sucks. I also though the built in search was cool, but as soon as i finished installing it it was so slow . i did not want dx10 so bad that it would render my computer unusable, so i went back to xp. at least microsoft also knows its a dud, b/c the new windows os is supposed to come out next fall. Vista is definetly the windows Me of its generation.
