It only means they don't believe in gods. All gods, not just yours.

We don't believe in gods/deities. The "Christian god" is on par with all other gods.
The label "atheist" suggests nothing as to the belief in an afterlife.

It means that I, (cos I can't speak for anyone else), don't believe in Invisible Sky Critters, Ghosties and Bogeymen.

There is no god taking an interest in human affairs; there is too much evidence to support a 'no god' belief.

A universe with a god would be completely different to one without.

It means we don't believe in anyone's idea of God. It has nothing to do with "Higher Powers," afterlife, ghosts, etc. Just God. To a dog, we are a "higher power;" it doesn't make us God.

Atheists don't believe in any gods, christian or otherwise. Almost always, they don't believe in an afterlife either (and if they do, it's not divine or religious in nature).

There's no logical connection between belief in god and belief in an afterlife. However, most people who believe in one, believe in the other. Most people who don't believe in one don't believe in the other.

Usually it means they do not believe in god or any supreme-like non-human being.

Lots of people, including Hindus, agnostics, and soul-searching theists, refute the Christian notion of god.

It means "lack of belief in a deity or deities."

So, you could be atheist and believe in an afterlife. Many Buddhists are technically atheistic, and believe in reincarnation and progression toward nirvana.
