Sometimes your understanding supports and helps you in what you have to take on faith and sometimes it doesn't. For example, you have no reason to doubt that Jesus will be with you always OR that you might have to give up your life as a witness like the early martyrs did. Now if you were in that harsh situation you would have to 'trust in the Lord with all your heart' and not listen to thoughts like 'what does it really matter if I deny God or do this thing that faith tells me I shouldn't" The simplest example but the one that might urge you to scorn me, would be Adam and Eve. Shouldn't she have trusted in the Lord and not reasoned and accepted the understanding that the deceiver urged on her. If they had their path would have been straight.
One more. Your conscience. Don't you often have the temptation to rationalize against your conscience. Reason can help -- I say 'can' not always 'will' -- by making sure your conscience is informed but -- well you know.

The third chapter of Proverbs was advice specifically to sons as they grew up.
These two verses stress the importance of trusting God with all your heart and not on what you think you know. If one remembers the Lord in everything he/she does, he will show you the right way.

Don't think as men think. Open your heart not your mind. Continually be honest "in all your ways" about who you are with your Heavenly Father. Trust that he has a plan for you. Trust that the directions you are going are guided by Him. If you can remain obedient to Him in these things, He will make your "paths straight." The straight path is the one that eventually leads to eternal life. God bless.

We must not be wise in our own eyes but be willing to listen to and be corrected by God's Word and wise counsellors. Bring your decisions to God in prayer; use the Bible as your guide; and then follow God's leading. He will direct your paths by both guiding and protecting you.

It's telling you to have faith, and trust God. Your own understanding is human rationalization ( give me proof ). Live by Faith in Him, that is all you need, and He will be with you and watch over you.

It's an instruction to me not to try to "figure out" everything on my own. Let God do things his way, it's a perfect way even if I don't understand all the time.

It means to trust God and not what you know (for example if you are told you are going to die of cancer, trust that God works in ways we don't understand and can heal you even though your understanding is that you are going to die), in everything you do make sure that you remember it is Him who has done great things for you and he will make it easier for you
