Hot? NO! Use cold RUNNING water to thaw your meat.

EDIT: Wow! Do people think I'm STUPID or something?
**I** carry a California FOOD HANDLER'S LICENSE!

Here is an excerpt (from Michigan food handling law -- which mirrors California law) on how to THAW FOOD:

"Thawing: Potentially hazardous food shall be thawed either under refrigeration that maintains the food temperature at 41° F or less; completely submerged

*******under running water having a temperature of 70° F or below********

; or as part of a cooking process."
It doesn't say a DAMNED thing about HOT water!

You certainly can thaw a chicken in hot water, Assuming you are going to be cooking immediately after thawing. I would assume the reason you are asking is because you need to get it done quickly and not with the cold water bath or don't have time for it to defrost in the fridge.

The chicken does the same thing if you put it in a pan to boil for instance or heats up as you fry or cook it no matter the method. Thaw away and as long as you are using right away you should have no more than normal cleanliness and handling issues.

NO WAY! Never thaw meat under hot water or just sitting out on your counter. You should always thaw any meat/chicken in the fridge. Usually takes a while, but it's the safest method. The other methods are allowing Salmonella and other bacteria to form. Not good!

It is safe to thaw meat in hot water, but you have to be careful and not leave it sitting there for any more than an hour or so. The real reason is that once the meat goes above 40 degrees, whatever bacteria that was present when it was frozen will begin to multiply.

Of course, cooking it thoroughly will kill the bacteria.

I thaw chicken breasts and other pieces in hot water. I put it in a zip lock bag and place it in the sink and fill it up. I have never done a whole chicken before though. Cold water will not work as fast. I have done this for years and I haven't gotten sick from it. As long as you cook the chicken whats the harm?

NO! That can be extremely dangerous as warm water promotes bacterial growth. You can thaw a chicken in cold water however and it will take the same amount of time as it would if you used warm water but it is much safer.

Hell NO!!! Real bad for you. The only safe way is to let in thaw naturally in the refrigerator . Will take a lot longer, but brtter than getting some horrible health problems. Food poisoning from chicken is soooooo nasty

ONLY use cold, running water, hot or even warm is dangerous, bacteria pool party anyone? It doesn't take that long to thaw, especially with the water running.

I use hot water all the time... have been doing it for years, and I'm still alive.
I just fill my sink with hot water and place the package of frozen chicken in the water to thaw.
Works for me.
