Christians is a little generic, Don't you think just look how they have answer to some of the questions post about the bible and pro choice, no real unity of thought, they all got they favour bit a there own reversion of the good God book, the bit they can use to justify certain behaviour they learn and quote without blinking and the bits they choose not to learn because they Don't agree but if you don't agree with the bits they agree with or vice a verse all hell breaks loose, and doctors get shot and clinics get bomb all because they read it in their little book!
No wait It's wrong to generalise when you do people go off to the respective corners and then come out fight and for what pieces of paper and words.
Judge those who act in such way to merit judgement and live in peace with those who merit peace.
No more and no less is needed.
I am an agnostic which means I do not not believe but will not be convinced to believe by others I seek my own path and follow the goodness that I wish the world to be I don' t need a church or a religion to hide behind, I am responsible for who I am and what I do. I will face any one or any thing with a pure heart.
What more does one need?

So let peace and harmony be our guild, this is as Christ would have want is it not,

The thing that scares non followers is that when there are extremist fundamental churches like those shown in the Doc. 'Jesus Camp' the rest of the chistians don't stand up against them.
It's like it your part of the club then it's ok to do un chirstian things!
JUST SAY NO to Hypocrisy!

The majority often finds it hard to see that there are people out there who do not agree with them.

Hostile is putting it a bit strongly, I think. There are aspects of Christianity to which many people are hostile, but not that many are all that hostile toward the concept as a whole.

No...it amazes me actually.

I have always prided myself in having an open mind, and accepting that others believe differently from me. I guess I dont understand the hostility because I have never thought about being hostile toward someone because they are different from me. Your religious choice is not your most important characteristic. No more than skin color, gender, sexual preference, political affiliation.

I was raised to appreciate "people", I stick up for the underdog, and I dont put up with intolerence of any kind.

Although not particularly Christian, I was shocked to see the hostility towards Christians. But it was also very enlightening to see the many viewpoints here in R&S.

People are not hostile to Christians - they just do not like having someone Else's belief forced at them. Nor do they like the intolerance and hatred expressed by the Christians here.

Thank goodness there are other religions. atheists and pagans who are all far more tolerant, loving and forgiving!!!!!

Sure, someone had to be buying those shrill anti-Christian books written by Dawkins and Hitchens for them to become best sellers. Still, it is a very small percentage of people, probably less than 10% in the USA. I don't worry about the hostility, its nothing new historically speaking.

No, I didn't, and it really bothers me. I grew up in the Bible Belt where Christianity is accepted and even expected in the populace. I really never realized that there was such hatred of us out there. A recent poll stated that 92% of people in America believe in God, so I am assuming that the 8% who don't are simply extremely vocal and all show up on YA. I really don't hate anyone, and it floors me that I am hated by so many who don't know me at all, but hate me for believing in God.

You also realize that there are some tolerant, caring, non-believers out here in Yahoo land who feel despised as well correct?

No, I did not. I certainly did not know that people would hate me just because I love God and accept Jesus as my Savior.

I thought people were open-minded and accepting. I never knew some athesits felt as if I ought to be ridiculed and disrespected for my beliefs.

Their problem......

The Evangeliicals I know would be surprised, they never stop bluetring and condescending long enough to hear anyone else. What surprised me was how light the opposition is around here given the way we Christians have marginalized and beaten up on everyone else.
