Keeping your mind silent is a choice. Meditation may be for some but is not necessary to quiet the mind. I have no need for meditation, personally. I do however make a choice to enter the gap and it is as flicking a switch...instant. I choose it and it is so. I bring forth, from the unknown. We are the only manifester's in our lives. As you choose, so it shall be. Choose wisely. Life is not meant to be difficult.

Yes I am as boorish and abstruse as I sound but not nearly as neurotic as I used to be in part because I meditate although it is a misconception that all forms of meditation have to do with keeping the mind silent. Certain forms of meditation practice, however, can help modify the mind so that a person has less mental and emotional "noise" and baggage (neurosis) going on.

No. The minute I think I've got it, I realize that I'm thinking, "I did it! My mind is completely silent!"
So yeah, I'm as neurotic as I sound.

I don't believe in emptying the mind completely but rather focussing on one thing perhaps a relevant verse or quote.
My mind is pretty overactive most of the time, even when you think your mind is quiet it's often thinking many things but I try to focus on verses of scripture and read them aloud over and over until they sink in. That may sound stupid but I believe the bible is truth and 'the truth shall set you free'.
And freedom is Gooood.
