This was a good quality but modestly priced .22 made by Savage-Stevens under the Springfield name. It is not particularly rare nor does it hold much collector value, but interest in mid 20th century .22s is growing as they get older.

It is definitely of better quality than most mid-priced .22s made over the past 25 years!

This basic rifle action has been produced for decades, and in many models. The Savage Model 6 began the dynasty, with production from 1938 to 1968. They were sold by many different companies, such as Sears, Stevens, and Springfield, and under various 'store brand' names and every few years they would change the stock or make parts cheaper and call it a new model. It all culminated in the Savage-Stevens Model 987, produced from 1981 to 1989.

As to value, it's not going to get much. The range is probably $50 for Good condition up to maybe $125 for one that is very near new. Sorry, you won't be retiring on it anytime soon!

My advice is to take it to a gun smith for an inspection and then buy some ammo from the nice man and take her out shooting.

Oh, this rifle was not sold with a scope....but by 'original' you mean it looks as old as the rifle, it's probably not worth but a few dollars. At the last gun show I went to a man had a bunch of old Weaver El Paso rimfire scopes for $5 each. I took his best two, which looked almost new.
