my cat loves to get his paws wet, then lick them. I don't know why but I figure as long as it doesn't hurt him it doesn't matter what he does.

I have a psycho black cat that has an obsession with sinks. This is because when she was a baby, and when I would come home from work, naturally I often had to go to the restroom right away. She would follow me in there and jump up on the counter so I would pet her while I was on the can. Eventually I started turning the faucet on a small dribble, and taught her to drink out of it by diverting the water with her paw. I think she learned to associate the sink with love and attention, because now the cat is 6 years old and still does this. Sometimes she just rubs her head on the running faucet and gets her face all wet. When she wants to be petted sometimes she will go in the bathroom and sit there in the dark and caterwaul at me, begging for me to go in there and pet her... crazy cat. She also likes to lick the water off the bath tub after I've taken a shower. And I too have to keep the toilet lid down or both she and my boy cat will try to drink out of it like a dog. The girl kitty was also taught to fetch bottle caps by my alcoholic ex husband. The cat developed a peculiar habit of taking new bottlecaps and dropping them into her water dish and leaving them there for a few days, then fishing them out with her paw and making a mess... I finally decided she didn't like the beer smell on new caps and this was her way of washing them off!

No. She's not being a brat. She is just playing with the water. Kittens do go through a phase where they discover that water is "a thing", but that unlike other "things" her paw can go through it. She is discovering water.

If you want to see something cute, turn the kitchen sink on so it just drips -- very, very slowly, maybe a drip a second. Then put her in the sink and watch her watch the drop fall and try to chase it into the drain, which of course she will not be able to do, because it has disappeared on her.

This is a very normal, very delightful kitten thing.

cats have trouble seeing the water.
they might be disturbing the water so it is easier to see. try placing the bowl in a different place - she is not misbehaving, it is a real problem many cats have that they can't see the water surface well. i heard this on calling all pets on NPR.

i think it is to see if there is water there because it is hard to tell. they are prolly just testing it to see its there and not harmful.
