I know that most normal Muslims think it is wrong to punish that teacher because she made an innocent mistake..

But people still say it is sinful to call a teddy bear Mohammed because it is name of the prophet (pbuh)

But I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY this is wrong!!!

We call boys all the time Mohammed and it is a common surname. And people use for a business name too (sometimes on shops where they sell things that are not too good like a newsagent that sells porno, booze an' lottery tickets)

So why is it just wrong to call a Teddy bear Mohammed? When I was little I had a Stuffed rabbit called Mohammed because I liked that name, my parents didn't tell me there was something wrong with it.

Can anyone explain what is unislamic. I don't want to make sin

I like read half way through the answers and it's amazing to see all those points of views.

I just want to tell you that I agree with every single word you said... and I don't understand why they arrested her myself. I think the one and only global result from this incident is that people will get (or have already gotten) the wrong image of Islam - which is a religion of PEACE.
It's a shame how many Muslims forget that Islam is a religion of peace sometimes.

A teddy-bear is one thing which is supposed to be precious to children's heart to begin with. Besides, Muhammed is a name and it was used as a name. I am not saying that I do not have respect to our prophet. But when they teddy bear was names Muhammed, the term Muhammed was used as a name and I do not think that it was meant to refer to the prophet whatsoever. Finally, if you still don't agree with me and think that she had committed a crime, I'd say, she should have been told and warned - NOT ARESTED FOR SURE.

Thanks for your brave comment. I would not have been able to state it more beautifully. :)

Its just that Muslims luv Prophet Muhammad more then the parents or anyone on the earth and would dislike anyone name an animal even a teddy bear as Muhammad

Hence Non Muslims should be careful

Although i dont agree with the punishment as the non muslim lady should be given a warning but we really dont know what is truth there.

Best regards!

I think that it is ridiculous of the extent of the punishment to the poor woman. Why doesn't anybody notice the fact that it was the children that suggested the name? The teacher had no idea that by allowing to give the children what they wanted then she would be charged of inciting hatred (what???) and insulting Islam. Of course I think that is wrong to give a teddy bear the name of Muhammad (pbuh). However, the punishment is just wrong. Her punishment should be an apology that she now realizes her mistake and she will never do it again.

I agree with B. I am sick of Muslims making Islam seem like a religion of war and death. Now, to many non-Muslims, Islam will seem to be a barbaric religion thus pushing many people away from Islam. Muslims are to blame that so many people actually hate and fear Islam when it should be the opposite. People should be flocking to Islam like bee's to flowers, but no. You read on websites that Islam is backwards and needs to be destroyed. Why? Because of Muslims. No if or buts. When they read about wife beatings, female mutilation, honor killings, child marriages and terrorism then is it any wonder that people believe that Islam is an evil religion despite when we say otherwise?

If you are a Muslim then you should know that Allah(swt) is the only creator. To create something like an animal or image like a person and give it a name is haraam in Islam.
Any Muslim who sells Alcohol is not following Islam and because some do this it does not make it right!! I have never seen any place here in the Middle East with the name of Mohammed for its business.
In Islam we should respect Allah and his messengers.
If your parents did not teach you Islam that is their fault..
Look up information about creating false Idols, creating images of things which only Allah(swt) has the ability to create..
On judgment day the creators of these things will be told to give life to their creations and they will not be able to, they will be judged.

This is getting out of hands
Its like' the old medieval Catholic Protestant spy catchers
in the old Tudor days
when priests had to say mass in secret
Or the Witch hunt' in the days of burning the suppose victims
because a cat walked across her path.
Surely Mohammed'' would smile to see innocent little children
cuddle and love their Teddy's, and named Mohammed out of love,
I was a strong Catholic, with judgemental views,
I am still a strong Catholic
but now' modified my views

I think I understand, from my catholic point of view, we also name our children Jesus or some even name them Cristo, so I don't see why it would be wrong to name your teddy bear mohammed. Now, if you look or think of your teddy bear as your God or instead or your Mohammed, than there you would be creating artificial Gods but from your explanation it seems like you are just naming your teddy just like a child or a puppy. Good luck, and I wish you a good peaceful outcome.

look my friend, when the British woman gives the teddy bear the name of the prophet Mohamed ,most Muslims in Sudan were angry because she is not Muslim ,so they thought that she makes fun of the prophet mo hammed by doing that ,you can give your animals and dolls any name but be away of the names of the prophets,Muslims respect Jesus ,moses, and all the prophets ,Muslim man can call his son moses and Jesus (Essa) .so they respect the names of prophets.

the names of some things become more than names it become part of the meaning.
have you ever met some person his real name is god, satan ,devil or dog ?

Look at it this way.
I dont know where you live, but here in the United States, the name "Jesus" is used and abused. Ive seen people give the name to their dogs, ive seen "jesus paper dolls" and ive seen disturbing pictures of jesus. No one even cares anymore what the name or even himself as a prophet (or "son of god" to them) is portrayed.
Now how do you think it started? Something small like...ohh.. naming an insignificant inanimate object after our most beloved Prophet. The name Mohammed is very sacred to us..you dont throw it around like that.
I dont even know if it was an innocent mistake or the story they told was truthful..i tend to not believe anything i see on tv anymore. Allah knows.

edit : authentic believer..im not saying at all that the punishment is reasonable..im just saying that i wonder if the story they told on the radio/tv is true...without being twisted and manipulated. I heard different things on 2 radio stations.
