But this group of kids in my class said that humans aren't animasl... I'm like what?
I asked them what we are if we're not animals... they said 'we're mammals, you're so stupid!'.
o.0 How on Earth am I supposed to deal with people like this? I seriously never thought some people were so stupid.. and they're 7th graders. I'm like 'And mammals belong to the kingdom of animalia... which is the animal kingdom.' They looked at me like I grew a third eyeball. They said 'Well if I'm an animal I'd have a tail'.

Tell them we evolved from the same common ancestor as apes, not monkeys. Monkeys have tails, apes do not.
Be content that someday, when you are college educated and successful, many of them will be asking you, "would you like fries with that?"

They just plain had never thought of it before. Let them get through Biology, they'll figure it out...it's just a wierd thought to some people.
I wouldn't worry about it. Some kids understand taxonomy right off, and some just don't. We all think and understand differently.
Yes, humans are animals, according to taxonomy. This doesn't mean that there aren't differences between us and other animals - there are - but humans are in kingdom Animalia. There is no other kingdom we fit into. Ask them if they'd like to be fungi, plants, or protozoa instead?
They'll get it. They just haven't covered it yet. Not a big deal. :-)

The only question here is "How on Earth am I supposed to deal with people like this?" So, my answer is, lighten up! You are too young to get all uptight in regards to what others "think" is the truth. Chill it out and move on.....and you can take that to the bank!

woohoo, looks like the school system has become worse since I graduated. No offense to you sweetie. You are right about humans being animals. Angel, you need to look it up......humans are classified as animals, we have live young and hair on our bodies, we are animals.....in the mammal section..... ;)

Just realize that the educational system in this country has been dumbed-down for so many years, that it is a wonder anyone ever passes a graduation test.

7th grade huh. Well, that's the American school system for ya. Remember Miss Teen South Carolina? "I personally believe that US Americans like such as need to help the Iraq and the Asian such as like to get maps and such as..."
And I'm sorry, but people like "Angel" aren't helping the situation by making abject ignorance a "religious" prerogative.
