Several people have told me recently that most fruits contain too much sugar for you and you can get all the nutrients found in fruits from vegetables anyway, then suggested that i cut fruits out of my diet. But I have always been told fruits were really healthy. Anyone know anything about this?

It may be healthy to cut certain fruits from your diet for a period of time if you are doing something like a yeast-free diet. If you are trying to cut down on "sugars", then yes, eat more vegetables and fewer fruits.

First, though, "sugar" is a very general term. The "sugar" we use most commonly is sucrose, which is not healthy because it's not natural! However, sugar, or saccharides, are what our body breaks most foods down to in order to get energy. Almost every food we eat becomes "sugar" down the line. Starches and whole grains are complex saccharides, protein is an even more complex saccharide. These are neccessary to life itself! So no, it's not good to completely eliminate all "sugar" from your diet. It's not about how much sugar as much as it is about what type.

Some nutrients from fruits can be found in vegatables, but not all. Balance is very important! In fact, since fruits help to clean out the system, some of the most effective diets involve focusing on fruits for the first couple of days.

Fruits are healthier than reaching for candy, cookies, or even oatmeal bars, if one was only looking at the sugar content, since they contain artificial sugar and fruit doesn't. Also, fruit is digested quicker than many foods, which means only a healthier level of sugar is absorbed.

Basically, fruits do contain sugar so it is important to keep a balance; however "sugar" alone does not make something unhealthly (although sucrose, or artificial sugar, does).

yeah, fruits are tricky little bastards, you can find this information on the internet. I wouldn't cut them out of your diet tho, they are good un-processed sugars, it's not like drinking a coke every time you eat a peach. Veggies have very few essencial nutrients they are mostly re-arranged water, you would need to eat tons of them to get what you need every day. I would say balance the two, eat an apple or two and a few cups of carrots or brocli every day.
