It all depends on which team he bet on.

You're assuming that God decides everything that happens in advance based on whoever prayed more, etc. You're assuming that God sees time in the same way that we do, with the past behind us, the present where we are now, and the future ahead of us and unseen. God is above mortal time, looking down on everything that is happening in the past, present and future all at once. So He can see you as a baby, you now on the computer, and you ten years into the future, all at the same time. That way we all still have free will, and yet He still has the power to change things if he sees fit to. People say "If God knows what I'm doing tomorrow, then I can't still have free will". This explanation of time explains that. God does not necessarily 'rig' the game at all. He may just watch the game that humans are playing in free will, and help each player to play their best, if that's what they prayed for. And you don't normally pray that you will win, just for strength to play your best. God bless x

God doesn't 'rig' any football game, nor does he interfere at all even if both teams 'pray to win' before a game. Football is not a 'religious' thing ... although, if you look at the statistics, for some reason, Catholic schools seem to field EXCELLENT sports teams a bit MORE often than state or other religious schools do. Notre Dame, in football. Gonzaga in basketball. THINK ABOUT IT, then decide for yourself ... but it's not because the teams 'pray' ... it may be because the MEMBERS pray individually for some 'religious' goal that can be helped by a WIN for the team, though.

I know you met this to insult prayers in a public arena- but just maybe if both teams were praying they were praying for safety and a game that actually was not violent in their attempt to win but play fairly. By the way God does not rig, as you call it- he is always just.

Dude! That is a freaking awesome question. One I have pondered for yeeeeears.
You deserve a star Wise One.
People do pray to win games. When I was in high school the football teams prayed to win before every game. I was in the marching band and we participated in those prayers. Also, when we had marching competitions we prayed to win.
Yeah, I was a band nerd sho nuff but at least I can honestly say "One time, at band camp,....."

It depends what they are praying for. If they're both praying to win, they should remember that God wants the best for them. He probably would want to teach them individually how to have fun playing their sport, and how to take a loss with good humor.
Besides, the Bible says to put others before yourself. So the team that loses can be bummed out about their loss, but also should be happy for the other team for their win.

Well, as you and I both know, god doesn't exist so neither team is helped out by this silly practice... ok, I don't know for sure that there's no god, but it is ridiculous to believe that he would rather help you than another team in a football game...

No idea BUT why isn't the loosing team despised and ostracised - if they weren't good enough for 'god' to love and help WHY would anyone follow (worship) them?
They should be stoned to death.
[edit]
I noticed several people suggested that no team prays to win, they only pray for no injuries.
Yeah; right.
ANYWAY, how come there are still injuries?
Probably Satan's work, huh?
LOLz

he goes with whomever prays longer. Unless the pack is playing, then god goes for them. He's a Farve fan. (some times the devil just likes the other team too much though, and god fails to get Bret the win)!

He probably wouldn't rig the game, one team would win, but in the process of winning or losing both teams would probably learn something about humility, playing fairly, what is important in life. even if only one team prayed, they could still lose.
God's will isn't that they win everything, it's that become more Christ-like in their living.

My guess would be that He 'rigs' it for the team that plays the best. God is a just God, too.
