What weapon will the British armed forces use after the SA80?

I know the weapon will be phased out within 10 years or so...just wondering what the forces will use when the SA80 goes away?

Actually the SA80 is due to be replaced in 2014, a little over 6 years away.

The armed forces are presently running behind the scenes tests with various weapons, a friend of mine who's still in the Mob has recently taken part in trial testing various designs, including the new US combat rifle and the new Israeli rifle as well as several British designs.

One thing to note though is that Afghanistan and Iraq have proved the usefulness of bigger caliber weapons and it's looking increasingly likely that the UK may make the switch back to 7.62mm rounds.

The way that government policy and funding for our armed forces is going there will not be a need for a replacement for the SA80 in ten years as defence of the British Isles will fall to the French "offshore legion" division of the euro procrastination force.
