my 5 year old cat has been lethargic, & not really eating or drinking for the last 3 weeks. I've taken him to my vet, they tested him for Feline HIV, leukemia, ran blood test and still have no answers! He's been there three days, my bill is getting bigger and bigger....what do I do?? I want him better but can't spend a whole lot more on VET bills!

Wow, I'm sorry. Have they done X-rays to see if he has any tumors or anything? If you get no answers maybe take him to another vet, but I understand the cost is a concern.

Would your cat have access to antifreeze? If so it tastes like koolaid to them and is poison and can cause damage and or death. If it's an outside cat ask the vet about antifreeze poisoning being a possibility.

Vet's now have fantastic testing and health screening methods for pet illnesses, but it can cost you an arm and a leg. The vet is the only one who can tell you if Kitty has an illness to treat.

The time of year you refer to happened during a change of seasons. Maybe Kitty is taking advantage on inside climate. Try playing with her--or bring her a paper bag of wild crickets from the pet store. Release the cat and crickets outdoors together--and see if she perks up a bit. Maybe it's just a season thing--if you can't think of anything that;s stressing her out.

Hi,
I am sorry to hear about your cat. I have owned cats for over 20 years now, needless to say I love them. I have noticed in my experience that they rarely get sick especially a 5 year old one. The blood test should have revealed something about your cats condition.
Over the years I have learned one most important lesson about cats they really need to eat raw meat (they are true carnivores). I feed all my cats, for the last 5 years, a diet of raw meat (I get from the pet food store, I go to Whiskers in NYC and buy Primal or Bravo brand raw frozen food)(you can google those names and find a place to purchase it), then I prepare it,(you know cook the grain) either oatmeal, millet, barley, brown rice whatever and mix it with all types of organic vegetables. I put the grains and vegges in a food processer to grind into almost a paste. I mix it(a 50/50 ratio) with the raw meat and add cat vitamins and essential oils like salmon or fish and borage, and lecithin granuels(the granuels I just sprinkle a tablespoon on the food and mix it in), I open up a capsule with a knife and squeeze on to the food. For extra taste I add a can of Abady brand pet food (that is already ground and cooked meat).
I have never owned such healthy and satisfied cats. Their fur does not shead almost at all, and it shines like a diamond. They have tons of energy always running and playing most of the day. The best part is I am no longer allergic to them. My allergy and all my friends who have allergies to cats as well, report to not suffer when around my animals. It is the food that causes the allergy not the cat.
To make it much easier I make a large batch of the grains and vegetable and freeze about 7 quart containers. I have three cats and it lasts about a month. So just once per month I cook for them. It's worth it.
Pets are not supposed to eat cooked foods, preservatives, or any of the bad meat from downed animals or dead pets that renendered down and made into pet foods. That is what happends to your pet after you have them euthenized at the vets and all those animals that are killed at the pound. And they use old restaurant oils to put in the commercial foods. Do not use commercial foods. You will notice the difference in your cat immediately.
One last thing, I fast my cats once or twice per week. It rejuveniates their immune system and gives their digestion a rest. Besides if your cat were in the wild he or she would not make a kill everyday. They may go hungry one day or so. It is perfectly natural and good for your friend.
Good Luck to you and your friend

Take him to another vet. If they can't find anything, take him home. He may be dehydrated. Try getting some Pedialyte down him withan eye dropper. Or, it could just be his time. I am sorry about your cat, and hope he is better soon.

I would seek second opinions. Talk to other vets, see what they would do differently. Or if they have any suggestions.

Seriously, no one is more qualified to help you on the computer- especially since they have never met your cat or seen his records.

The vet is the right place to be, I wish there were better news. What does your vet say? Any clue?
