Its a nice small car that's not too small. Insurance should be low cost like most cars of its size/power/price. The Elantra gets very good mpg only Civic and maybe 1 other get better fuel economy for this size car/engine. If you check Edmunds.com or yahoo auto, you will see that the Elantra is rated good by both critics and owners. The good thing about Hyundai is they are very safe cars, the only negative is that they depreciate like an American car. I own an Azera, yes its the best, but obviously you don't have the extra $10+K for one of those as the guy above me wants you to buy.

Go for it. Do your homework and make sure it's got what you want.
I am the former owner of an '02 Elantra GLS (that had over 100,000 miles on it at trade in) and the current owner of an '07 Elantra Limited. It's a great car. The only complaint I really have is the interior..it's bland. Otherwise, I love the features, ABS, satellite radio, CD, airbags everywhere you look...oh yeah...and I got my current car for about $400 more than I paid for my car in '02....$13,700.00. Other car makers can't even come close to that price with all that my car has.
Oh, and as for my former car? I did most of the maintenance myself (oil/filters/plugs) and the car ran like a dream. Only once had a problem and it was COMPLETELY covered under the warranty.
Another "American" car I owned prior to the first Hyundai broke down right after the 36,000 mile warranty expired. And it was DEFINITELY a manufacturer's defect...but I paid out of pocket for it. Crooked b@stards.
Nope, no more crap cars for me. Do yourself a favor. Go get yourself a good deal on a great car.

I have an 05 Elantra and it`s been great. No problems , good gas mpg and I think they look good . The ride is so much smoother on a Elantra than a Civic, not to mention the Elantra is and feels roomier . The interior is quieter than a Civic also . I have no problems on a long ride in this car. And with some bargaining you should be able to pick up an Elantra for quite a bit less than a Civic. Plus The Elantra will likely have more standard equipment.

I have an Elantra 03' and it has it's ups and downs, but earlier this year I had a major downer...my ABS Hydraulic Tracking Unit went out (the whole braking system). Luckily I dropped my daughter off and she wasn't in the car. The only way I could stop was using my E-brake. The unit it's self and labor was over $1,700. It's not very common in any car...but Hyundai told me it wasn't part of my warranty. Otherwise gas mileage and insurance is cheap. Good luck...and be prepared for stupid mishaps like that.

I have a 2005 Elantra and it's been nothing but fantastic. it is the 3rd Hyundai I have owned.
The Elantra currently ranks higher than the Toyota Corolla for initial quality and customer satisfaction...plus you can't beat the warranty.
Go for it.
By the way, people who keep calling it a small car need to do more research. It is quite large inside, so large that it is classified as a mid-sized car. Not compact.

For a car that size it is a really great buy. Its comfortable, reliable and has some great features for the money.
I drive a Hyundai 4wd but if I could own a smaller car (i have 3 kids and 2 are babies) I would definately look at the Elantra.
My husband has had heaps of them as company cars and we love them.
I know quite a few friends and family who own them too and love them. When upgrading car they always get another Elantra.

I give the Elantra a 100% rating because I used to own one and I think that would be a really great investment. I now have an Accent. They both get great gas mileage and a great warranty. As far as insurance,U.S. agencies is about the cheapest you will find anywhere. Enjoy your new ride.

I actually have a 2000 Elentra and have had to interchange the trany. It cost me 3k to purchase a sparkling, because of the fact the old replace into replace into to undesirable. Hyundai advised me the 2d proprietor does not get the ten twelve months/ 100k mile guarantee. My dad has a 2002 accessory and has additionally had to interchange the trany. thankfully he replace into nonetheless decrease than guarantee. We checked boards and found out that Hyundai's have a difficulty with their automated transmission. I had 81k miles whilst my trany went out and my dad had 92k. while you're to purchase one purchase a stick and purchase it new.
