Whoever told you that is grossly misinformed and their logic if you follow it will get somebody seriously hurt or killed. I strongly suggest that you look up the traffic laws in your state before believing a statement like that.
Also just because you have your turn signal on does not give you the RIGHT to turn or change lanes, it's just to notify other drivers of your intention to change direction. It's a courtesy, just as the other driver is supposed to be courteous to you when you put your signal on.
Here is an excerpt from the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law Article 27, subsection 1142 and Article 29, subsection 1172 respectively:
SS1142. Vehicle entering stop or yield intersection. (a)Except when directed to proceed by a police officer, every driver of a vehicle approaching a stop sign shall stop as required by section eleven hundred seventy-two and after having stopped shall yield the right of way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from another highway or which is approaching so closely on said highway as to constitute an immediate hazard during the time when such driver is moving across or within the intersection.
(b) The driver of a vehicle approaching a yield sign shall in
obedience to such sign slow down to a speed reasonable for existing conditions, or shall stop if necessary as provided in section eleven hundred seventy-two, and shall yield the right of way to any pedestrian legally crossing the roadway on which he is driving, and to any vehicle in the intersection or approaching on another highway so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard during the time such driver is moving
across or within the intersection. Provided, however, that if such driver is involved in a collision with a pedestrian in a crosswalk or a vehicle in the intersection after driving past a yield sign without stopping, such collision shall be deemed prima facie evidence of his failure to yield the right of way.
SS1172. Stop signs and yield signs. (a) Except when directed to proceed by a police officer, every driver of a vehicle approaching a stop sign shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, then shall stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or in the event there is no crosswalk, at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of the
approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the intersection and the right to proceed shall be subject to the provisions of section eleven hundred forty-two.
(b) The driver of a vehicle approaching a yield sign if required for safety to stop shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, then shall stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or in the event there is no crosswalk, at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of the approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the intersection and the right to proceed shall be subject to the provisions of section eleven hundred forty-two.
I'm positive the traffic laws in your locale are similar if not exactly the same.

You are the dumb driver for not yielding...the sign says "YIELD" on the ramp...not the freeway. Yes if the other car hits you from behind that driver will get the ticket but YOU caused the accident. That make you feel proud? If you can't merge at the speed of the traffic already on the freeway REGARDLESS of how fast it is moving then brake and merge when it's safe or mash the throttle and get up to speed.....

Where do you live that merging traffic doesn't have to yield to traffic on a freeway? LalaLand?
Even if not law, the physics would have to tell you only a brain-dead troll would think high-speed traffic has to part like the Red Sea for somebody coming on to the highway from a merge lane.
I suggest you return your driver licence to the surplus store, it is defective!

guy I even have subject concerns with human beings on the line all the time. no longer that express occasion, yet guy some human beings do in simple terms no longer understand a thank you to force. Like once you're on an interstate or something and you're on cruise administration b/c you have a a million/2 hour force or something and a few human beings arise and pass you which ones is advantageous and then they decelerate whilst they get in front of you and that they do it many times. guy it fairly is the worst.

So if you cut in front of me when I am going 70 and you are going 35 it's my fault?
Probably the insurance company will see it that way. You are supposed to accelerate to the same speed of the traffic flow BEFORE merging.
Or take the bus.

The worst are the ones that pick up a piece of stupid misinformation, then try to spread it as truth.
All on-ramps have yield signs.
This means YOU yield when entering.
When you pull onto the freeway and get hit it is NOT their fault, it is YOURS. (Failure to yield)

I don't waste the energy on hating the "dumb" drivers. I expend a LOT of attention on avoiding them.
