It will be eligible for discharge in May 2208. You may need to contact Equifax and the other reporting companies to follow up and have them remove it. First, find out what is on your account info in the credit reporting services(the cheapest way to get this info is to apply for a credit card with a high limit-when refused, they must give you free reports on your credit. The other way is contact any of the credit reporting companies and request a report for a small fee) If your bankruptcy is still their in may, you must send a request to the three credit reporting agencies and ask them to update your record. This will also give you an opportunity to see if anything else is on your report that needs fixing. If all else fails, you will need to hire an attorney to get your record clean as some agencies will report it for up to 10 years. Good luck as I was there twenty years ago. I now have a 780 credit rating

A bankruptcy will stay on your report for 10 years, but this does not mean that you cannot rebuild your credit in the meantime! Look at my website and read all of it! I was a victim of ID theft and bankruptcy and I still got my score up from 486 to 730 in a little over a year, so this is a subject I know about and my bankruptcy will still be on my report for another 7 years!

You really should get a free copy of your credit report if you haven't done so already. You also should be prepared to dispute any negatives you can find for matters that are incorrect, Inaccurate, Misleading and Unverifiable!

I got my score up by 140 points out of 236 doing this and it feels so much better when the weight comes off your shoulders!!!!

There are two answers to this question:
The Credit Bureau reports it for 7 or 10 years depending on what type of bankruptcy.
However - many credit applications and other financial forms ask "Have you ever filed for bankruptcy?" and you must answer yes no matter how long it's been. To do otherwise is lying on the application. So in this sense, bankruptcy is on your record forever.

it takes 7 - 10 years. Whether it is removed at the 7 year mark [the earliest] depends on how you handle your finances once you are discharged. If you pay all your bills on time, use a secured credit card, etc. the bankruptcy will be removed earlier rather than later.
