Your credit reports don't get combined. However, since California is a community property state, you will both be responsible for repayment of debts even if it's only in one person's name.

Your credit reports do not get combined, but California is a community property state and both of you will be responsible for all debts incurred between the two of you!

I would clean up your credit report and start rebuilding your credit first. I had to do this after ID theft and Bankruptcy and I still got my score up from 486 to 730 in a little over a year!

Get a free copy of your credit report and examine it carefully!
Don't underestimate the power you have with the right to dispute negative items in your reports!

I go into detail in this on my website, too much detail to post here!
