If we faced a situation that was similar to the second world war. How many young british men would stand up to the aggresor. Many older people seem to think we are all to soft and we would not last 10 minutes. I say this in light of the present conflicts we face where no one knows what to think. But in a black and white situtation like fighting the Nazis, what would you do?

thankyou..ive always thought how our grandparents generationin the 1940's joined together and resisted and defeated the nazi regime by unselfish courage, willingness to do what is right for the country and answering the call to arms.
on the whole the country all united to achieve this with only a minority of objectors/deserters etc.
i find it hard to imagine todays generation would be so willing to do what is right in this age of looking after no 1.ive even heard some people say with out embarrassment that they wudnt fight and and used the excuse "u have to look after no1 in this world" . i have no time for people with that kind of selfish attitude.
but at the same time there are those who would and hopefully we cud recreate that great british fighting spirit.
and believe me that todays generation of soldiers fighting out in afghanistan and iraq do our past heroes proud.

I am an American. I am certain the British military will perform like history has shown. No matter what the situation, when the young are called to battle, they will do what needs to be done. Your military has been and is still one of the best in the world. You do not need an Adolf Hitler to rally around to get the best out of your soldiers. The rallying point is simply doing what is best for Great Britain. Look simply at the Falkland War with Argentina. The world did not understand why Britain cared about a bunch of tiny islands halfway around the world. Your country and your military proved its worth while fighting the out right aggression against what was wrong and won the battle. I for one am glad that you are our ally and not our enemy.

I'm an old soldier, British Army 1957-1965. I'm now 66 and I do not think the young men of Britain today are soft. On the contrary, I think they're much tougher than we ever were, those of my generation born during and immediately after WW2.

If/when Britain is ever threatened by such as happened in WW2 the young men of our nation will do their duty and without hesitation..

People who think otherwise are just not tuned in. No one wants to lose what we have built up over the years and no one that I know of wants to let the side down should the need arise etc.

I think we would fight, the real downside of this question is whether the govt would finally stop ripping off the armed services and give them the tools they need to do the job!!
That is something i would worry about more than being conscripted into the Army/Royal Navy/RAF....

Its a sad day when we send soldiers into battle without body armour because there wasn't enough ordered in the first place....
If we really want our guys to do the job, GIVE THEM THE TOOLS BEFORE LIVES ARE LOST!!!

Hypothetically, I don't think we would have much choice. A lot of our young people are fighting the governments wars at the moment and are proud to do so.
Feel a bit useless sometimes when I see a rememberance day parade, and I'm sat on my **** on a day off!

On the other hand, I've seena lot of people bailing out of the TA at a sniff of an upcoming conflict...

My father had served as an officer inWWI andWWII and told me that every establishment, considered the young generation
as degenerates,shoft living,decedent etc...in every war these
young...degenerates surpassed in valour and in heroic deeds
their elders, were they Italians,Germans Americans or British..
or all other nations involved in the war.. ditto with my generation until we proved our mettle(they still called us degenerates and lost youth...).It is called "generation gap"an absolutely human phenomenon.....

what would you do if you realised that the same groups ,familly's , ideology's that were backing (behind) hitler were in control of every so called civilised country on the planet today and then were drafted against an enemy that doesnt technically exist ??

if there were a genuine threat to me and my fellow countrymen from foreign sources i would do my bit , but every war up to today thought for money and centraliseation of power .

give this a watch eye opening .
