What do you guys think is the most fun car to drive that costs under $25,000 new or used. I'm looking for something with a manual transmission and good gas mileage. So far I like used BMW 3-series and used VW Jetta GLI 1.8t

Depends on what you call fun. In my line of work, the most fun we got out of a car(s) was a Acura TSX(used) and raced in the SpeedVision touring series, or our BMW 325 (Betty) which is also modified for RS racing in SCCA. The TSX is the least expensive to keep up and maintain, but the BMW definetly has the "solid as a rock" feature. For the street, I tend to lean towards the Acura, just because it rides smooth and is very inexpensive to maintain. If you want a "pocket rocket", the SRT-4 (Neon) is awsome, as is the WRX Subaru.

If u are willin to go for a 3 series, then just get an m3 if u want real fun, it will definetly come with manual of course and aint nothin like a M powered Beemer. The m3 is just a monster version of the 3 series. u'll sh*t on any1 on the road.

Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky

Both are 2 seat roadsters and either can be purchased new for about $25,000

If you are looking for a used car - Why go for the 2000 - 2002 Corvette. These fall in this price range. Fast, and will blow the doors off any of the others listed here.

I loved my Nissan 300zx for about 4 years, before retiring it to get a practical family car, once the baby girl was born.

It is an auto N/A even...would fly and carve corners like it was on rails. I always wished it was a 5-speed twin turbo, but the maintenance costs were triple anything else out there.

"Z"

In a convertible, you really should look at a newer Mazda Miata. Its basically a souped up go kart! Handles great, gets good fuel economy and because its lightweight, it has very good acceleration. In a coupe, I would suggest a Mitsubishi Lancer. These cars are used a lot for offroad rally races for a reason. Tremendous handling and acceleration. Can't go wrong with either of these for fun.

Mini-Cooper S like the car in The Italian Job looks to be more fun than almost anything.

I would have to go with a Mazda RX8. It has great power to weight ratio. It's very well balanced, almost 50/50 front and rear. Fast and nimble sounds like fun to me.
The second choice would have to be the Mini Cooper S.
(if it ain't the "S", it ain't worth having)

Miata.

You could do new for that price, or you could get a lightly used car and put on a roll bar (good idea regardless) and turbo it. Actually, for 25 grand, you could turbo the HELL out of it. 300 horsepower 2500 lb roadster? Oh hell yeah.

And they're an absolute BLAST stock as well.
