The reason it's confusing is because this phrase is used to mean a couple of different things in the Bible.

1. Word of God. His laws and commandments. Also, the Bible.

2. Jesus, in both the Bible and the Quran, is called "Word of God" (in addition to many other titles). "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us" (John 1:14) / "Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a Spirit proceeding from Him" (Sura 4:171)

Biblically, there are various accounts of God's spoken wishes causing action. . . that what he speaks becomes. So, possibly God's word, at least in some sections is action. . . creating.

Hope this helps!

The word of God is his 66 letters of instruction to you. He does not expect you to just read and understand. He wants you to ask questions and then allow his word to answer.
For example why did Jesus say the meek would inherit the earth at Mathew 5:5, The answer is because he knew that his father promised this at Psalms 37:9-11,29. The problem with people is that they expect him to help them, but they don't have to make any efforts. The bible plainly states that if you want everlasting life then you need to make an effort to get his answers and then act upon them. John 17:3. John 3:36

Jesus is identified in Scripture as the Word. He is God incarnate so basically the Word of God is God Himself. For us now, the Word of God is the Holy Bible, also known as the Scriptures.
There are many various translations but God has revealed Himself in the original manuscripts. The originals have been lost to time but God has preserved for us the many copies of the originals that have been passed down through the years.

Hope that helps.

The Word of God is a term that is used to describe the Bible. The Bible is the spoken and inspired words of God himself that men recorded throughout history to document what God wants us to know. Even though it was a mere human that did the physical writing down, it is understood by Christians that God was the one inspiring them what to say about who He is and what He wants us to know. The Bible is what Christians use to teach them about God, and to learn about what our purpose on this earth is!

Now, most people would question if it is all true, or if it really is the Word of God...I would challenge you to trust that it is, because what is the point of believing in God if you don't believe everything that is in the Bible? Everything we know about God comes from the Bible, so to pick and choose which parts we want to believe leaves lots of room for human error, and God is perfect. Which would you rather take your chances on? A perfect God, or a flawed human?

Not a stupid question at all!

When people say "the Word of God" they mean the Bible. It was written by the hands of many men, but it was all inspired by God. It gives instruction for every aspect of life and living.

The Old and New Testament (and if you are Muslim, the Koran) are called the "Word of God" because the writer stated that God spoke the words " And God spoke to Moses saying....." or the organizers of the Bible considered that the writers either were in contact with God or were inspired by God.

I guess if you are very literal, you might interpret it as meaning the things that God actually related verbally or caused to happen by his speaking. God caused chaos to become organized and the world was created. God gave the power to speak and name animals to man. God told Adam and Eve they had responsibilities. God told Noah to save the good people. God told Joseph he would be great. God told Moses to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt and that if they kept a covenant with him He would build them into a great nation. God said, "Aum Tet Set Aum" God kept reminding the Hebrews of the covenant through the prophets. God eventually said the Hebrews would be divided but that he would send a new king to raise them up. God said, "This is my son, in whom I Am well pleased."

Jesus Christ is the Word of God made Flesh (Incarnation)

The Bible is the story of the People of God, written by imperfect men, but regarded by Christian believers as a source of doctrine that CONTAINS the word of God.

Christianity is not a book-based religion.

Scripture

2 Peter 1:20-21 “Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”

2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”
