The friend I am getting the Puggle from is NOT a breeder, her and her friend have a purebred pug and the other a purebred beagle and they mated (not intentional on the owners part) the puppies are almost ready to go. My friend is not selling the pups, she is giving them away to people she knows. I know what is required as far as vaccinations and vet care but am curious as to any special care a puggle may require beyond the standard normal puppy care. Also, I have done research on behavior but as most sites I found were those made my breeders fear they may be biased and not mentioning any negative aspects about this type of dog. As soon as she can my friend is going to get her dog spayed so it wont get preggers again so please no negative comments regarding that.

It isn't intentional. I have known my friend for years and remember her even bringing her dog into be spayed but because the dog was so close to going into heat the vet refused to do it because of increased blood flow to it's vagina and then it got pregnant on a camping trip with a friend and her dog. My friend was offered money for the pups but refused because she is strongly against puppy mills and BYBs and thinks by accepting money it will just encourage those practices further.

Not a Black Saint Bernard - I am just going by what my friend told me and I have known her for ages and it isn't her habit to lie. I am a not a vet and do not know everything associated with dogs and their reproduction. I know she is not a professional breeder and her dog has never had puppies before. She could have planned it and is lying to me but as I don't know enough about dog's and their reproduction I have nothing I can firmly call her a liar on. I know she isn't accepting money for them and do remember her telling me about why she couldn't dog spayed but as you said she could possibly be lying because if it apparently sounds fishy, something must be up. I appreciate your input and will mention what you've said to her but as she isn't accepting money for the pups don't know why she would lie about wanting to get her dog pregnant.

I have two pug/beagle mixes. Since they are mutts, there is
no guarantee yours with be anything like mine.
Both of them are extremely food motivated, which is great for training but bad when you are eating (they always want some). You need to be careful since they can easily become overweight.
The older one is very intelligent, often too intelligent for her own good. She likes to push her boundaries, so you need to be firm and stick to the rules, or she will constantly test them. They have a LOT of energy, but love to curl up on your lap as well.
Many of these mixes are surrendered to shelters because the owners are not expecting the dog to have as much energy as they do. Please... provide adequate exercise for them. They can be absolute terrors if you don't.
ADDED: Oh yeah, like the person below said... some are horrible shedders, including one of mine. I cannot even get dressed for work if I am wearing something black until she is put away in her room because her simply brushing up against me leaves a ton of blond hair.

they are no different from any other breed of dog. There is nothing special to know. To be honest, your dog is a mutt, and there are absolutly no guarantees on size, temperment, or personality. But that's the fun thing about mixed breed puppies too.. to have fun guessing which breeds he takes after more.
I would be leery of sites too that are made by "puggle" breeders. They are biased towards their "breed" and try to make them sound as great as possible to up sales.
Do a little resaerch on pugs, and some on beagles.. as your dog will develop personality traits of one or the other... or a little of both. You can get an idea of the good and the bad of both breeds, and get a rough idea on what to expect from your pup.

I have a 15-month old puggle and let me tell you, you're getting a handful. These types of dogs never stop. And they're always hungry. They aren't really aggressive or troulemakers but they get into EVERYTHING. So just get ready to have a little tasmanian devil dog in your house. Just go into the whole thing with that mindset and you'll be fine. Puggles are great.

Yeah..not intentional!!! And I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you!!!!!!
Could not be spayed because it was so close to going into heat and the increased blood flow to the vagina?????????
How would the vet know the dog was close to coming into heat? Until it comes into heat, how would you know?
And there is not a problem with increased blood flow to the VAGINA!!!! It is the UTERUS that is the problem.
Story sounds a LITTLE fishy!!! Then your friend didn't know the dog was in heat (even though the vet knew it was CLOSE) and let it be unattended with an intact male????
This was intentional. It is just that no one wants to admit it!!

there attitudes can be very unstable they are supposed to be good dogs though and they aren't puggles that would be a poodle and a pug but yeah still they are supposed to be good dogs and like any other dog you should brush them daily to keep there hair from getting matted if there hair is long they will most likely be very hyper and energetic dogs though. You might want to find out about the parents and if they have any medical problems that they could pass on.

Just be aware that they can be hyperactive and need plenty of excercise. If you leave them alone unsupervised they will get into mischief. Other than that, they are great dogs. Very playful and energetic, and they get along great with other dogs.
Good luck!

Well, it is furthering the " designer" industry indirectly, but your dog is already here, so please be responsible and alter your pet. You should know that it will shed ALOT, so be prepared. Other that that, just be responsible and your "puggle" will be fine.
