i started looking for a wedding band, i like the dark shiny look of the titanium rings a lot but i guess they cant be resized if your ring size changes during your life, which it almost always does. i wasnt a silver looking band and was thinking about an alternative metal rather than white gold because it kinda looks like crap and loses its silver color after a few years. someone told me palladium dents and scratches easily so i was thinking maybe tungesten, does anyone know if that can be resized? if anyone knows of a good, objective buying guide for metals it would be appreciated. most of the guides ive found either sound unobjective or dont include tungsten and titanium

I dont know too much about different types, but i can tell you that the rhodium plating on the gold that makes it look white can be redone by your jewelery store a couple times a year. It is usually covered in the warranty, so if that's all you had against it maybe think again?

also, do you mean platinum? If so, I have been told by several jewelers that platinum is not worth it's price, as it is so much softer than gold and does stracth and dent so easily.

You are right about the titanium not being able to be resized, however tungsten is also the same. White gold is the next best bet for a guy that wants a resizable ring, it does turn slightly yellow over time but this can be corrected by having the ring re-rhodium plated, typically a inexpensive job at a jewelry store. We use to charge $20 at the store I managed. On the flip side, if you like the titanium or tungsten they are pretty inexpensive, so just replace it if necessary, or buy a couple of different sizes when you buy yours. In my experience men's fingers change less often in size then womens.

My husband's wedding band is tungsten and he loves it. It is very strong and very difficult to damage and scratch if you can at all. The only downfall is that they cannot be re-sized. They are cut out instead of molded. But, you know what? The size of men's fingers do not change as much as women's. I deffinentely recommend tungsten.

Definitely no to gold. It doesn't stand up to much. My husband has a titanium band. It cannot be resized but it's also really not all that expensive so if you did end up needing a bigger size, you could always just buy a new one for under $100.

I bought my husband a Tungsten carbite wedding band. This is the same material that they make oil drill bits out of. The only problem is it cannot be re-sized. I think for his big fingers (size 14) it cost $180 for the ring. They had to specially make a mold for his ring. They are much cheaper than a lot of other metals.

platinum is soft and scratches too...it's also really expensivel. palladium is more expensive than white gold, but i've heard that it's more scratch resistant that gold.

titanium doesn't always look dark. my fiance got a ring that is titanium and silver. it is this, except the middle is silver instead of gold

My husband got steel- it was only $130 and it looks great. I was quite ready and willing to get him platinum, but that's the ring he liked the most, so that's the one he got.

Beware of tungsten, etc- if it were to get stuck on your finger, it cannot be cut off. Can be dangerous.

My husband has a palladium band and he really likes it. He hasn't had it all that long, but it is a lot less scratched than mine (which is white gold). Our jeweler said that unless you work with your hands (construction, etc...) a palladium ring is pretty durable.

Good luck choosing.

My husband got Steele. It was very inexpensive and if he wants something fancier later in life, if was not a waste of money! We also thought about the titanium rings, howeever if your finger gets caught, borken, swolen, etc, it can not be cut off by a paramedic (which could result in loss of a finger...)

Platinum isn't soft- that's what makes it so expensive. We have platinum and my husband works outside and his ring has held up very well for 7 years- and counting...
