I know the 40 GB model is locked-out from playing PlayStation 2 games, but is that also true for original PlayStation games?

ONLY 60GB is backwards compatible and the 60GB is being discontinued after it becomes sold out.

So get it quick! :)

no. it is not backwards compatible at all which is why they came out with that version at a lower price. sorry. that's why we spent the money for the original 60 gig...
