What would be the best?

Composite Fillings?
Porcelain (Ceramic) Dental Materials?
Porcelain-fused-to-Metal?

CRAIG,

THIS IS A VERY GOOF QUESTION.
BOTH DIRECT AND INDIRECT COMPOSITES ARE EXCELLENT OPTIONS TO RESTORE A FILLING PREVIOUSLY DONE WHERE SILVER (AMALGAM) WAS USED.
WHEN YOU CONSIDER PORCELAIN FUSED TO METAL, THIS INVOLVES SHAPING THE WHOLE TOOTH TO A SMALL PEG AND PLACING A CROWN TO COVER THE ENTIRE TOOTH.
THE PORCELAIN INLAY/ONLAY IS ALSO AN EXCELLENT CHOICE ESTHETICALLY. IT WEARS MUCH STRONGER THAN THE COMPOSITES AND HAS A POTENTIAL TO FRACTURE.
COMPOSITES ARE MORE FORGIVING AND ARE EASIER TO REPLACE IF NEEDED.
YOUR DENTIST IS BEST QUALIFIED TO GIVE YOU THE OPTIONS BASED ON YOUR CASE.

sure you can.

first you need to know if you can get another filling, if there is enough of the tooth structure left to bond to. then you could go with a direct/indirect composite, onlay, etc... http://www.animated-teeth.com/tooth-bonding/a1-tooth-bonding-composite-fillings.htm

if not, then you might consider a crown. http://www.animated-teeth.com/dental_crowns/t1_dental_crowns_what_are.htm

good luck :)
