To a psychologist, the suffix "phobia" doesn't mean fear. It also includes hate. It means any kind of aversion to something.
I know, in popular use it means to be scared of something, but that's not what it means specifically.
For example, I have an uncle with extreme ailurophobia -- "fear" of cats. Except he's not afraid of cats, he hates them. If he see a cat, he won't scream like a little girl and run away. He'll probably kick it as hard as he can.
So with the made-up word "Islamophobia," it implies that people have an irrational hatred of Muslims or Islam.

Yes alot of people are afraid of us Muslims due to the media and ignorant leaders such AS Bush. People are ignorant about our faith and they see us as a threat to society.Islam means Peace and Muslim means someone who submits to god. I agree there are a small majority of groups who mis represent Islam and what it stands for but people should search for the truth for themselves and discover the real Islam the one that we Muslims know respect and love .After Sept 11th Muslims have been in the world spotlight and treated with contempt which is unfair.Back then i was a christian and i decided that i wanted to find the truth for myself and i did I found the true religion Islam via the quran.Like myself many other brothers and sisters have too and that is why Islam is now the fastest growing faith.

A phobia is an exaggerated or baseless and irrational fear of something. Fear of Islamist violence is far from baseless, irrational and exaggerated,bu this suspiction should not be projected onto every single Muslim in the world since many Muslims are the major victims of Islamist Jihadist violence.

Nope i don't think they are, they're probably afraid of the extremist groups that have arisen from an Islamic backround. Stuff like the Al-Qaeda!

Oh yes, I can testify to the fact that a LOT of people are afraid of the Islamic religion.
Before I married my husband, people came out of the woodwork to advise me against it. People who barely knew me, but who did NOT want me to marry a Muslim.
It was truly bizarre.
We've been married five years, now. That's four years longer than I made it with my first husband, who was Catholic. And I'm still happy with my Muslim husband and our Muslim kids. And contrary to the inane ramblings of the moron "Islamophobics," I'm not forced into a hijab, and am not beaten on a regular basis (my husband has NEVER hit me).

"islamophobia" is a word that muslims use to attack people making legitimate criticism of islam and to gain sympathy from dumb liberals (which actually works- liberals always step up to defend muslims who are ready to slit their throats)

I've never heard of it.
Being afraid of Muslims is just like being afraid of Christians or Confucianists - doesn't make any sense in general. but there are a lot Christians that I am definitely afraid of, with good reason. (Bush is one.)

Yes and rightly so.
Because let's face it, they stand together no matter what, or how seperated they appear to be from their faith.
When the call to arms goes out, they will not hesitate to eliminate you, if necessary. Well, they may hesitate, but they will still do it.
