Better yet, when was the last time someone did this for you?

I have a friend who became concerned about my arthritic feet being cold during last winter's brutal cold snap. He sent me a box of warm socks, and that is one of the most endearing things anyone has ever done for me.

As I was outside hanging my Christmas lights in the cold, I thought of his gesture, so I came in to ask this question.

Thanks for sharing your precious moments.

Oh, yes, I'm wearing his socks.

I am selfish. It makes me feel good when I make others happy.

For example, my next door neighbor built a fence. She is strong and great woman, but she is also a senior citizen, so I painted the fence for her. It made me feel great, and I helped her at the same time. Life is wonderful.

We have to help one another. Start with making someone smile and build on that.

Several winters back ( a very brutal winter as I remember it), I saw a guy outside a resteraunt shaking from the cold and without a coat. He only had on a thin flannel shirt, and it was cold that day. Real cold. I gave my coat to him and $20 to go and get some food. He was utterly homeless.

Oh, and a pack of cigarettes.

We were on vacation a couple of years ago and had a flat tire. A complete stranger stopped to help us, as we were unloading all our luggage to get to our jack, and he offered us the use of his jack and helped us change the tire, then told us where to go to get it fixed. That was an act of kindness that I always try to pass on to someone else who needs it, even doing little things for people like opening a door for someone who has their hands full, with a kind smile, helping someone find something in the supermarket, just giving a helping hand. Sometimes a smile is all it takes to brighten up someone's face.

Recently I had to make an emergency visit home because of family problems (uncle with heart failure among other things); I stayed with my father and his wife. In previous times I had not gotten along with my father's wife and thought unkind things about her. This time, I tried to help her prepare food, talked to her, watched TV with her and tried to be supportive. I am not sure *why* I did it, except that she needed it and my father wasn't helping but instead making problems worse with some problems of his own. In the process of doing these things, I discovered that Dad's wife was really a much better person than I had ever given her credit for being. My impulse to be nice was unclear in its motivation, but it yielded some unforgettable clarity and helped me on the road to the truth of all things. I have lost one of my older prejudices, and that's worth ten times the trouble I went to. It isn't that I craved approval but that I felt obligated in one way and ended up feeling like a "piece that fit" in the difficult puzzle of life. Thanks for the question!

I hand embroidered the Marine Corps emblem for a fellow veteran who has lung cancer and is struggling. I presented it to him at the Marine Corps dinner hosted by our Marine Corps League detachment. He and his wife were in tears at the gesture and I think it gave him some energy and will to continue fighting. Not taking credit for that - I just wanted him and his wife to know I'm thinking of them.

I stopped to help a lady who had broken down on the side of the road...

i pushed her car about 1/4 mile to a driveway so it wouldn't cause traffic problems, she just steered, and enjoyed the ride...

(it was only an MG, so it wasn't a huge deal, but it made me feel good about myself)

their is nothing like toasty feet on a frosty day....

I asked Bill (the homeless person who stands outside Dunkin Donuts everyday) if he likes to read novels.....I told him I'll bring him a few paperbacks next time I see him and I get him coffee sometimes when he's there, he likes it when I already know what he wants, that was yesterday and he didn't show up today so now my purse is heavy
