There is a glaring omission from the first poster. With a totally new design in mind Sharp opened their 2nd factory in Kamayama this year (simply called Kamayama2) and they have launched ahead of the pack with their new models. They are fast and black! <===the two major prob's with LCD.

In the rumor mill, I've heard Sony is gearing up with a new assembly too, but it's not available yet. It will be interesting what that looks like.

To know if the Sharp you are looking at came from the new factory, look at the model number. After the letters LC, the first two numbers are the size. They have to be followed by a D and then another number 4-9 depending on the position in the line (9 indicates top-of-the-line) and the next number is most important. If it's a 4, it's the new factory. If it's 3,2, or before, it's not.

So, if you wanted the best 42" from the new factory the model number should be LC42D94

If you want to wait for the Sony then you will have something equal or better to compare to the Sharp, but at the moment, Sharp is it!

Toshiba, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, are best for picture/price/durability. I don't always agree with consumer reports but they got this right. Good Luck.
