A trained observer may be able to tell you if there are problems as young as four months. Vets will x-ray for hip displaysia at approximately 9 months. If it's severe they will be able to tell you if there is a problem. OFA will only recognize and post results permanently after 2 years of age. Although they will do a preliminary before 2 years of age. If you feel there is a problem please see your vet.

I understand they will do the test after they are 1-2 years of age.

Not until shes at least 1 1/2 at the earliest? Best done when grown to full size, normally 2 years old but depends on breed. Had my dog hip scored last year and its quite expensive. Speak to your veterinarian see what they advise.

I presume you are thinking of breeding from her. If you are not then there is no reason why you should need to have her hips scored.

Hip scoring is normally done as soon as possible after their first birthday. I always have my females' hips scored at 12 months.

Don't forget that if you do intend to breed from her she will need a clear eye certificate. Mine are tested just after their first birthday and this is required every twelve months thereafter. Hips are only x-rayed the once.

The best time to mate her is between 22 and 24 months old.

You can get a preliminary evaluation as young as 4 months, but you have to wait until the dog is 2 years old for the final evaluation.

2 years of age is the earliest it can be done. Dogs are considered physically mature then, and the hips should be done growing.

Anything done before hte age of 2 is only considered a preliminary check.

I believe the earliest that can be done is two years of age. Though, a preliminary evaluation can be done before that age. Go to www.offa.org.

You should have them checked when she is 1 year to see how they look but you cant get them certified until she is 2.

until she's two or over. You can usually be sure she'll be ok if her parents had good scores, as it's all in the genes. My boy is a GSD and is 13 and still going strong.

As you are asking this on the UK board I assume you are in the UK. She should be hip and elbow scored after she is 12 months old.
