For many years the Holidays were extremely hard.

I was an orphan and the only real "family" ideas I had came from books and television...of course that is not reality.

I have finally learned to not have any expectations, just enjoy friends and family and take each day as it comes....Bless! Anyone?

It's not the easiest time of the year for me. I would prefer not to "celebrate" it at all. But I try to do it different for the people in my life and make it a happy time. I spend time volunteering which really makes it worthwhile for me, and gets me out of whatever depression I'm in. Being grateful makes all the difference.

Woodsmoke, I can understand where you are coming from, my ex-wife was not an orphan, but she got shifted around alot between relatives and would tell me a lot of miserable stories!
I guess that is why she put in so much to the family we raised, and she still continues with the grandchildren, to make sure that at least they have an exciting and happy christmas!
Me, nowadays, I just make sure that my kids, and my grandkids have a good christmas, that is all I care about!

Bless your heart as you have really went through some tough experiences and seemed to have overcome them very well and having fun now. I have always gotten excited myself as I'm very blessed to have a great family and friends and now that I've found the love of my life, this year will be the sweetest and most wonderful Christmas ever! God bless you too!

Kinda out of it....
Holiday bring out the weirdness in people. My sister inlaw after buying her mother a gift... giving it to her.. and not involving us- had a second thought and called me to see if I would pay for half of it!!!

Getting new windows next week so I can't even decorate or do anything until after the 4th....

Hate shopping around this time of year....

If I could NOT buy any gifts, not have to deal with people- including family and could sit at home and watch movies- that would be a better Christmas to me!! LOL

I look forward to Christmas. I have 4 kids and try to make it wonderful for them. they really don't get much from us all year except for birthdays. so Christmas is pretty big for us. My hubby however is a self declared Santa Claus and starts spreading the cheer a bit early for me. but I hold him till the day after thanksgiving.

I am going to tell you something I told my mother when she looks back at the terrible things that happened to her as a child. What happened in the past is in the past. you can't change that but the only thing you can make changes in is today and the future. make new memories and new traditions and remember those ones.
