I think it all depends on the person... People that are owned by their dogs are ones that obey them...take them out when they need to go.... Scratch them when they rub up against you...Throw the ball when they bring it to you without asking for it...Things of that nature.
People that own dogs are those who only call for the dog when they want them. Only throw the ball when they want to play. Not when the dog brings it to them. And tells the dog to lay down if they come near them for affection .

I know how you feel! Sometimes I feel as if my dog owns everyone else, untill we tell him "NO!"
It's hard though because his face is just SO cute and it's simply irresistable!
I think of my dog as an equal family member and everything works out fine in the end.

My dogs are an equal family member. Although my dad's dog owns my dad. Dudley knows exactly what to do to get my dad to go outside and play. Dudley even sleeps in my parents bed under the covers. If that isn't control, I don't know what is. I definitely have control over my dog though she listens to me and follows me everywhere. My dog is spoiled though, she sleeps in bed with me, and I share almost all of my food with her.

Family member, companion and pet. He is loved to smithereens, but he knows his place in the order of things. We are the boss. He is a Siberian Husky.

i have a dog, and i most certainly consider him a companion, family memeber and a pet. He does not own me though. I am very much in charge and he knows that. He doens't get away with anything, and if he does its not with me, my parents spoil him as well.

I am a human being and my dog is my property. And I've always felt that if you think of the relationship in any other way, it can lead to problems. I don't want my dog to be a part of my family because that's why I have kids. For $50, the dog can always be replaced.

My dog, is a member of my family. I am alpha, and she knows it. But she is spoiled just like my teenage daughters. She eats very well, lives inside only, and has two beds. Now I only have one bed..does that tell you something? But it is up to us humans that have pets to take care of them properly.
They were raised in packs, and now we are their human pack, and we have to try to keep things in their dog kingdom world to a point.
But at times I do feel like she owns me. How could she not she a Corgi. lol.

my dog is pet and companion - not an equal family member (she does not get to make the decisions - that's my job). even so, i agree, my dog often has a better life than i do.
