He is divorced, I have never married. Curious to find out the "how many dates before you do it" rule in general for Scottish society. I can wait as long as necessary.. I don't want to ruin the relationship by accepting an invitation too soon.

Note - My long-term partner passed 5 years ago and I've been out of the dating loop since, so snarky comments are really not appreciated.

The time is right when you feel comfortable and when you feel he cares about you as more than a casual lay....
A good rule of thumb is to look at his actions more than what he says to you..
1. Is he showing you that he cares about you?
2. Is he attentive, does he make plans with you in advance, and talk about spending quality time with you?
3. Red flags....are there any "things" that he is doing that are making you hesitant?
Good luck.

As an Englishman living in Scotland, I am not aware of any differences between Englishmen or Scotsmen in this respect.

Hope that helps.

No general rule. It'll happen if it is meant to happen. Scots guys are just like anyone else.
