If you are talking about the actual origins of life (the first single celled organism) I think there are a few possibilities. Included is amino acids (the building blocks of life) acted upon by heat and energy from volcanic activity or a lightning strike for an example. This process has been reenacted in laboratory experiments. After that single celled organism comes about, it begins a process of natural selection and micro evolution (evolution within a species). Micro evolution over time will result in macro evolution (a species evolving slowly into a species with different characteristics). These characteristics will depend on their environment and what traits are helpful to pass on to bread successfully. An example of that is animals such as dear battling to win the rights to breed with a female. The stronger larger buck will win and therefore pass on the good genes he has to his offspring.
As for your second question, I believe in nothing supernatural (ghosts, karma, god etc) because I see no reasonable proof of their existence. By definition a supernatural force has no proof because then it would cease to be supernatural.

The answer Is simple, science has proved that the universe started with the BIG BANG. Reactions resulted after this that made the building blocks of life, Life evolved on this planet over the years through the selection nature, what was strong enough to survive did what was not died.
I do not believe In a god as there Is no evidence that such a entity exists People must be very deluded If they think that one thing could have created the universe, world and all In It. Such people must be scared of death In order to think that they will live forever, what a load of ----.

Just because someone doesn't have a quick answer to a question, does not mean making up an answer (ie a mythical entity created the world in 6 days) is a valid answer.
Being an athiest isn't about saying something is catergorically not true, its about looking for the facts, logic and evidence to explain things. Its about questioning things and building your knowledge.
The Bible says the world is 6000 years old. If you were a Christian you'd except that as true but as an athiest Im able to question it. Science has proved, through carbon dating, that some of the rocks on this planet are 3.8billion years old. By questioning what the Bible says we've learned the truth, rather than taking ancient books seriously.
But its not just Christianity. You may ask me why do I not believe in God. I could ask you why don't you believe in Budda or Titan or Eros or elves.
If you were born in India, you'd beleive in whatever religion they get taught there. It doesnt make it any more true than if you were born in Africa and were brought up with their faith.

I believe nothing, because a belief is an idea accepted as true without any proof, and I demand proof for anything ideas I accept as true. There is science to explain things. Saying, "God did it", means nothing at all. It is the same in effect as, "I do not know, but I won't admit it". Creatures were not created. They evolved. There is plenty of proof of that. read some about geology and plaeontology. I was reading such books before I started to school. There is no proof that any gods exist, and the creation myths in the bible have been disproven. You cannot offer any proof for your beliefs. Study more and try to open your mind.

Personally I believe in evolution. The proof is in fossils, close genetic markers in species and their sub-species which prove the 'evolve/adapt or die' theory which is scientifically proven. Animals do not just pop out of thin air, they adapt and change to their environment in order to survive. Basically survival of the fittest.
An example of this, granted on a much smaller level, is the MRSA virus. It's caused by natural selection of a pathogen which mutates at random to become resistant to antibiotics.
I explain the earth by the big bang theory for which there is also scientific proof.
Yes, I believe there is mostly a scientific reason for everything, even miricals, there is a logical explanation, even if that explanation is chance. I also believe in the power of nature, it's kept us going this long, it is what sustains us, so why can't nature be the thing you believe in?
So, after all that, let me ask you a question.
You believe in God, so what stops you believing in fairies etc. all the magical creatures. There is no scientific proof for either God or magical creatures so how can you believe in one but refuse the possibility of the other?

Chucky, do you not agree that using science as an argument against God is rediculous? Most if not all scientists will admit that the odds of our intelligent life being created solely under sciences laws are more than a million bazillion googalies to one. Pffft. What you said Einstein said is correct. You're both right. well done.

I am not an Atheists and I am a Unitarian. I believe there is a creator. But I can't see it, smell it nor hear it. I know that there is something out there in this big Universe that has developed millions and millions of years ago.
As a student who has studied Anthropology, and any other Social Science study's there are a lot of theory's of how we came to be. Some call it Evolutionary, others call it "The Big Bang." Others call it the Darwinism Theory. It does not matter. To me this is a wonderful thing. That we do not exactly know where we came from. If everything in this world would be so easy it would be boring to know it all in once.

you sound christian... these questions are always asked, I always wonder why don't people take a person's word for it... we don't need religion to survive... proof no matter how many people say we need it.. we still don't.. evolution is as much a law of nature as gravity... ever hear of when gravity was first being studied... the same condemnation from the church of those studying it existed... today even the stuborn church must admit that gravity is undeniable.... so too will it have to concede to evolution.. I also hear that some sects are still trying to push the world is flat... you ever read the warning in the bible that says "Hypocrite, why is it you seek to remove the speck from your brother's eye yet there you are with beams in your own eyes" the bible refers to the christians as the hypocrites.. when you challenge people learning on the basis of what they have not yet learned ... you are a hyporicte... for you yourself don't have the answer.. you demand proof of someone learning to be right... yet you offer no proof of your position.. blind faith is never proof.. people like that delay the learning process of us all... and that is why someone like me who knows what you worship isn't worth the time of day can understand your bible better than you who never leave it alone... what is the blind leading the blind? someone with a closed mind looking only for others with the same closed mind to guide them..

Science explains most origins of our universe and provides more proof regarding evolution and the development of life on earth.
Where as it does not yet contain all the answers, it unlike, the belief in god which has no proof at all, is a growing discipline that becomes more and more transparent every day. Religion still relies on ancient dogma, pagan rituals and folklore.
so now its your turn. where is the proof that god exists?

I believe in a lot of things. I believe this a beautiful and amazing universe.
I do not believe the universe was created. I believe it, and all of us, are the result of natural processes that we are beginning to understand quite well. The proof is the universe as observed, it is entirely consistent with this view! There is no proof at all for the 'god hypothesis'!
