If you want it for a simple cheese sandwich, get out a non-stick skillet, add water, bring to a boil (this makes sure the skillet is hot without hurting the non-stick coating with straight heat). Pour out the water, put the pan back on the stove until the last of the drops of water are gone. Then drop that piece/slice of cheese in the skillet. It will immediately start to melt. Once it's spread out and bubbly, take your slice of bread and swirl it around over the cheese. The cheese will stick to the bread and leave your pan empty.

To make nacho cheese, you follow this simple recipe:

2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
7 slices processed American cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and stir in flour. Pour in the milk and stir until the mixture thickens. Stirring constantly, mix in cheese and salt. Continue to cook and stir until cheese has melted and all ingredients are well blended, about 15 minutes.

When I was a kid, we would slice it up, lay it on a piece of tin foil and stick it in the oven and then eat it with a fork. If you're thinking of making a cheese dip, you can use the stove and a pan, but dips generally have other ingredients to keep the cheese from separating or lumping and sticking to the pan. I've also heard of dips being made in a crockpot, but I've never personally tried it. You could buy a "fondue" pot - it would come with recipes for cheese dips.

Melt cheese over low heat or in microwave, stirring constantly to avoid scorching.

Either grill it or put in a heavy saucepan and melt gently on the hob. I did that this morning. Made scrambled eggs and put the cheese in while the egg was liquid. Melted cheese scramble.

Grill it on a plate, or use a saucepan on the gas, put a little milk in the pan with the cheese, add a litle pepper, really good.

You can put it in a pan and melt it that way, or under the grill or you could put it in a frying pan.
