Do you defrost your windscreen with water or do you scrape it? If you use water, what temperature is it? Has anyone cracked a windscreen by defrosting it this way?

I'm not asking for advice... I'm asking what YOU do. And I know the theory about hot water but has anyone ACTUALLY cracked a windscreen this way?

I have always used water since i was driving, at 15.....and Im in my 40s now. LOL, when i run out of fluid
I was born and raised a Hoosier so i have known some COLD WINTERS. I have NEVER EVER seen a cracked windshield. I have heard those rumors too.......but i have also blingoed the results and no one ever had a cracked windshield according to that, Ive also done surveys on my sites......same results. :)

My procedure for defrosting the windows of my car is:
1. Start the engine. Switch the heater on full blast, directed to the windscreen. Use air recirculation function.
2. Get out of the car and scrape ice of all the side and rear windows, plus door mirrors.
3. By that time I have finished step 2, most of the ice on the windscreen will have melted, as the heater will have gradually warmed up. Scrap any remaining ice off the windscreen.

Definitely need to be real careful pouring water on a frozen windscreen. I always just scrape mine. Haven't actually seen anyone crack a windshield this way, but it's possible.

I used to use hot water until i cracked my windscreen. Now I either cover it or scrape it.
My own car has en electrically heated screen

Run windscreen heater with engine running for a minute then a small amount of COLD water run down the screen will clear it

If possible use warm water, around blood temperature (37-40 C). Use plenty so that you get the glass warm then it won't freeze again. If you use scrapers or de-icer then the screen ends up very cold and can frost up as you drive off, even on the inside!

If you use water to defrost and then start driving, the windshield will freeze again. Try covering the windshield with an old towel to keep it frost free.

I put on jug fulls of cold water straight from the tap untill the ice melts and have been doing so for 10-12 years no probs.

u can defrost it with luke warm water other wise u will crack ur windscreen,scrape it too

Well, I'm one of those strange people who use their garage to put a car in, not tons of useless junk. So I don't have much of a problem.
But I'd have thought that a scraper would be a lot easier to carry around than a bucket of water!
