The Khmer Rouge seized power in Cambodia around the time of the unification of Vietnam. Khmer leader Pol Pot announced that time would begin again at Year Zero. Most of the cities were evacuated and people were forced into the country side. Cambodia, then renamed Kampuchea, would devolve into an agrarian society, with no urban professionals.
Doctors, teachers, and intellectuals were soon killed off, as were many others who were seen as "reactionary" by the Khmer Rouge. Children were taught to turn on their own parents. Millions were killed in the camps from 1975-1979.
There is a great film about this time period, "The Killing Fields." I highly recommend it.
>Just had a class on international law today, where the professor covered the issue of humanitarian intervention. He discussed the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia, because the Khmer Rouge had emptied the cities killed millions of people in the fields of the countryside.

With the American pull out and vietnam too weak at the momment a Communist Revolution happend by Pol Pot and the Kamir rouge. Durning this many people died, Families were torn apart and the cities empty. Mainly due to the fact the Rouge wanted to embrace full communisim and setted up Communial Housing projects, whos circumstances were barely live-able.
The Killing Fields as they are known, are the resting place of 5 million people, Teachers, soldiers, polititions, Monks, anyone that went against the Kamir's And Pol Pot, and all those that died from their mistakes. A series of Mass graves with thousands of bodies thrown into one whole and at times never coverd. At times the Graves were the places the killings were done.
The Kamir and Pol Pot didn't hold power long, but durning there madness 1/4th of all of Cambodia's population Died.

Killing fields is where the bodies of thousand of combodians here found. All kill by the Kamir. I worked with a girl who had escaped the country and served on active duty during this time. People could be killed for being successful, educated or even appearing educated, for as little as wearing glasses.
