A comet is not likely to hit the Earth in a few years time, not in 2012 and not at any other time in the next hundred years. There is a possibility that some fairly large rocks, which are NOT comets but more solid will strike the earth in the next fifty years but the chances are calculated in numbers like 1 in 45,000.
The chances that the Earth will be struck by smaller rocks down to dust grain size within the next five minutes are 1 in 1.

That possibility is highly UNlikely, although it is possible. But most comets are far too small to destroy Earth. If a comet did hit, it would be something like what happened when a small comet or asteroid hit Siberia in 1908, only bigger. See the source.

A comet striking the Earth could cause anything from localized destruction to global catastrophe, depending on its size. However, you are mistaken in thinking a comet strike is "likely" any time soon. There is a remote possibility of an *asteroid* strike in 2036, but that seems to be looking more remote as time goes on.

A comet to Earth is like a bug to a car's windshield. The car just keeps on going. For the bacteria under the spot the bug hits though, it's going to be a really ugly day.

Where do you people get your foolish notions? Who told you that a comet is likely to hit the earth in a few year's time? Guess what? They lied.

Which comet would that be? Care to provide a source for this? There's really no way of answering this question without more information - and it sounds like the info you have is pretty suspect already.

Where'd you get that info?
There are going to be a couple of close calls, but there is nothing that indicates our being targeted as a 'hit' in the foreseeable future.
Granted, anything can (and usually does) happen, but I'd say that it's going to be OK for a while...
In the mean time, just sit back and enjoy the ride with the rest of us, won't you?

Naw, some stupid rock ain't gonna kill us all.
Even if they did,I'm sure scientists will discover it soon enough and big people who love to meddle into thing like george w. bush will send people to destroy it and the people sent to destroy it will die in their mission and all george w. bush does is write a letter saying how the world will appreciate them and cover their coffin with the flag and shoot bullets into the air and end of story.
