Sin is a christian concept, so christians can be sinners because they believe in sin.

Non-Christians that do not believe in sin can not be sinners, because sin has no meaning to them.

To Catholics, Confession is a big deal, but its not a christian ideal, so to them it means nothing. Do christians feel guilty that they dont go to confession? No, because its not within their guidelines of belief. Same with sin. If you dont believe in sin, it means nothing to you.

Another example. Laws differ state to state, they only apply to you if your in a certain state, or reside in a certain state, if your not in that state, those laws mean nothing to you. Laws in NY mean nothing to someone in CA. Same with Sin. Sin is the law within christianity, it only applies within the realm of christianity, if you arent christian, you are exempt.

To sum it up. Drop the fire and brimstone speach, and drop the sinner speach, it doesnt apply.

Sin is not an act, it is an ideal.
Murder is an act, Murder is bad is an ideal.
Theres a difference between being able to do things which christians consider sinful, and it actually being sinful. To a non-believe it can not possibly be sinful, because sin does not exist. Morally killing someone is bad, its also unlawful, so i wouldnt do it. But if i did, i wouldnt think im going to hell for it.

Their beliefs call not killing a commandment.
Atheists call it civilized conduct.

Their beliefs call not committing adultery a commandment.
We call it common sense.

You would think in a nation that professes to be
so religious, ten little rules should be easy to handle.
Yet in all that is wrong with the world, we who are
able to conduct ourselves, govern our own behavior,
WE are the problem?

Reading these posts one would get the impression
that all atheists live a free-for-all because they don't
subscribe to a big boogie man coming to get them
if they don't do right or a big prize if they do.

Are the people posting such under the impression
that 'christian' means you are clean and all is well?
We have ourselves to account to, we don't get our
slate wiped clean for the make believe asking.

Where is self-accountability?

Ahem.

As to your question:
"why do christians hold non-christians to purely christian ideals?"

What can I tell you? You are totally right about that. When throughout th Bible there is a separation between the godly and the ungodly, we have many of my fellow Christians failing to make the distinction, and trying to reach others through their behavior.

If you don't believe in sin, then it is not up to me to convict you UNTIL you begin to speak to me about it. That's when I become engaged in a conversation where you communicate your beliefs and I communicate mine.

So say you are trying to avoid all 'religious' conversations. That is the right thing for you to do, if that is what you do. But as soon as you come to a place where there are 'religious' people and begin a conversation, or make a statement about such things, they are perfectly normal when they begin to respond. As I am doing now.

I cannot tell you how many come to seek me out for so many reasons. Typically, the reasons have to do with the nature of sin in them. It doesn't just allow someone to do something wrong, but is also hides the truth from them. So that's why we sometimes need help with things; we are short sighted beings.

So I do not seek others to tell about God and the Bible. This is a place where we can meet and ask questions about those things, and there are people to answer them. Some of the answers might include things about Hell, it depends upon the subject. I tend to only answer with things about Hell when I am being asked about Hell. Otherwise, I'd rather focus on the good things. You know, the Gospel.

But.... what if you live by CA laws in NY? do the cops say "oh dude, its cool, you're from CA, so NY law doesn't apply".

Clearly not.

Christians don't assert that sin applies only to believers, they assert that it applies to everyone, so if by some freak chance they're right, what you do or don't believe will have no bearing on the outcome.

The logic on their part is sound, if you can get over the fact that they worship an imaginary construct, and obey oppressive rules designed to rob them of personal responsibility.

I don't see the point in presenting a logical argument to people who vehemently believe in the bogey man.

You make a fair point. I understand that you and many people don't believe in sinning and thus the consequences of those sins. I don't think you understand that most Christians don't want to hold you to our beliefs, but we truly believe (know) that one day God will. You might not consider lying a sin, but you have to admit it's wrong and usually ends up hurting people. You might not think of pre-marital sex as a sin, but again, many lives have been changed, damaged or destroyed because of this act, whether it's emotional damage, unwanted pregnancy or STDs and HIV.

We hope and pray other people will believe. We know most people won't.

God Bless.

I follow your logic to a point, but everyone is born with a conscience. You may reject and as the Bible says "sear" it by continuing in sin, but it doesn't make something ok just because you think it is.

That's sort of like saying you don't believe in gravity, so you will just jump off a building because you don't believe it applies to you. You may seem to "get by" with sin in this life if you are not a Christian because God doesn't necessarily punish or deal with those who aren't His children, but eventually you will suffer the consequences of it, either in this life or in the judgment to come. I think what Christians have a problem with is that sometimes we as innocent bystanders end up being negatively impacted by the sins of others, and we sincerely pray and wish that those people would get right so that pain could be avoided for the good of society.

For instance, a person who drives drunk and kills other innocent motorists. An abusive person who beats their wife and kids. A prostitute who spreads STD's or hepatitis to innocent kids by donating blood. Innocent unborn babies who are aborted by people having unprotected sex out of wedlock. Etc., etc., etc. If your sin doesn't affect me, I'm not as likely to preach about it, but if somehow it is affecting me or my family negatively, it's certainly my right to express my views about it.

Hope that makes sense--you are right that to some extent it is a matter of perspective, but your right to sin without me at least expressing my disagreement with it ends when it either directly or indirectly causes hurt to me or others I care about (or our society as a whole).

Christians are insecure in themselves so they need something outside of themselves to make them feel whole. They believe in their religion to give them the strength to face the world that they do not have within themselves and so they have a very narrow concept of the world. This narrow mindedness breeds a type of thinking that they are right and everyone else, who does not believe as they do, are wrong and, therefore, must be sinners and going to Hell. Even though their own bible tells them not to judge others that it is their God's job to do that.
The idea of "sin" is such a constrictive way of thinking, much like wearing a belt that is three times too small for you!
Many blessings to you!

Natural law,my friend. It is written on the heart and soul of every human being. if you go against those basic laws, there will be consequences. Christians just call it sin...call it what you want. it exists.
Christianity is not some bunch of arbitrary rules. comparing it to the goverment law is like comparing apples and oranges. protestant christians do not use the confessional, but they do confess to God when they fall short.

For many yrs. the critics had a field day with those who claimed that it was Moses who had written the first five books of the Bible. "Couldn't have happened!" they retorted. Their reasoning seemed logical enough. there was not writing in those days. everyone knew that writing had not been invented until long after Moses.

To the chagrin and embarrassment of the scoffers, archeological evidence increasingly demonstrated that writing existed long before Moses' day.

Unquestionably Moses, who was raised as a noble in the house of Pharaoh, would have been thoroughly trained in reading and writing. It may well be that this was one of the primary purposes of God in having Moses raised as a son of Pharaoh's daughter.

The Bible always passes the scientific tests.

So, if to a believer a red light is really what it is, and a non-believer thinks or believes it's actually green, the non-believer can just disregard it with no consequences? You can actually run them for awhile with no apparent harm, but sooner or later that 18 wheeler is going to t-bone you. That 18 wheeler is going to be God- whether you're in NY or CA.

And yet, here you are, posting a long rant on something that "has no meaning to non-Christians". So then why do you care so much, if it has no meaning to you?

God is real, and we are all sinners. Denying those facts or trying to refuse to believe them, won't make them any less real or true.
