What exactly did you do when you installed road runner?

You may want to remove Road Runner, and then use System Restore to return your computer to the state it was in before the installation of Road Runner currupted or somehow removed your sound card's driver(s).

Once you do this you can then contact customer service at the Road Runner company, and find out why the installation wiped out your sound card's driver(s).

Drivers are small software packages with instructions that allow hardware devices to "talk" to the software in the OS. It allows the programs and settings and features.

Updated drivers are the most common cause of blue screen issues.

It is also a good idea to get into the habit of setting a manual Restore Point in System Restore before you make any changes to your system. This way when something goes wrong, you can easily take it back to the time right before the addition or change and correct the errors.

To run System Restore and set a manual Restore Point:

Click Start, then click on Help and Support. The Help and Support window will open. Locate the words System Restore. It may be in a sentence such as "Undo system changes with System Restore" or simular wording, or no wording at all. Click on that link, which is the words or sentence containing System Restore.

To take your system back to a previous date, select the option to run System Restore, don't select the Set a Manual Restore Point. That is the other option you can use whenever you want to add software, hardware, or make configuraiton changes.

Now, select a date which is BEFORE you installed Road Runner, click Next and then just follow the short steps to complete the proces, now reboot your system. It should now be back to how it was before you installed Road Runner, and your speakers should work again.

Now, go to the Road Runner website and browse the support section for answers to your issue, of why your sound card stops working when you install Road Runner. If you can not locate any information on this issue, locate an option to phone technical support. If you can't find a phone number, then locate an email address to send an email explaining your issue and getting assistance to fix it.

If you are unable to find any of the above information, consider returning it to where you purchased it and find something else to use in its place. Just make sure it is compatible with your system and set a manual Restore Point before installation.

Always set a manual Restore Point before making any changes to your system. Create a meaningful name which will help you select that date if you have issues later on. This creates a safe enviroment to make changes, without worry you will kill your machine.

To set a manual Restore Point, access System Restore as outlined above. Instead of selecting to Restore your system, select the other option, Set a manual Restore Point, and follow the instructions of the Wizard. You do not need to reboot after setting a manual restore point.

Good luck and a very happy holiday season
