I never had a problem with acne, other than a pimple here and there during my menstrual cycle. I thought I'd use proactive to take care of this, but now my face looks terrible after using the product! I have pimples everywhere! This happened immediately after using this horrible product, I kept using it thinking it will get worse before it gets better but it just kept getting worse. I've stopped using it after 3 weeks and now I have acne scars, new pimples every day (painful ones). What should I do? How can I get rid of these zits and pimples? I'm to the point of considering a dermatologist, I dont know if my insurance covers it thougth. What products would you recommend? Any suggestions please!

You don't scrub really hard into your face, that just creates more damage and pimples. You have to lightly put it on and rinse it off. Trust me, you get more pimples during your period. I'm on mine right now and I broke out a lot, it's not the products fault.

Sounds like you're having a reaction to the medication.
STOP USING IT
Have you seen a dermatologist? Is your acne that bad? Not everyone reacts well to every product, and it sounds as though proactive solution is not for you.
There is no truth to the feeling that some facial washes "bring up the toxins and impurities to the surface, and you'll break out more before it calms down." NOT TRUE
See a doctor if it continues.
My face is very sensitive and when I get a problem, I wash it with good old Johnson and Johnson Baby Shampoo.
Great for my eyes when allergies are kicking up, too.
Good luck

I don't think it works. I have several friends that use it and I haven't noticed any difference. There is this knock off of it called AcneFree. I seen it in a magazine. It's available in stores, so none of those shipping charges. Try that first, it's half the price. If it doesn't work, then chances are, Proactiv won't either.

I personally use Tea Tree Oil because it is well-known for its drawing properties, meaning it draws the infection (the pimple) out. I also use it on my acne regularly because it reduces the redness within hours of putting it on, and it works amazingly on my pimples to keep them away. It's very safe and doesn't hurt at all.. It is 100% natural with no "fake" additives in it or anything like that... Best of all it is cheap and easy to find, such as at Walgreens (if you have one around), or at stores that sell health-foods and natural medicines. It is a very common home remedy and is very handy in medicine cabinets or First Aid Kits because it is a "cure-all" meaning it is not just for one thing in particular, it can help with many things.

I use it, and I love it. ProActiv didn't work for me, and nothing else really has either.. but this stuff has pretty much done the trick.

Goodluck :)

Maybe you are scrubbing too hard. I have never tried proactive but I like Loreal AcneResponse. It is a three-piece set that you can but at your local drug store. They have one for daily use and one that should only be used a couple of times a week...make sure to get the daily use one.
If you are using a harsh product that is meant for spot treatments, I would cut back that one to once a day or every other day. Sometimes it is tempting to put a lot of that on a pimple but then it ends up irritating your skin even more. Also, as they always say...don't pick at it.
Good luck!

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

You're likely having an allergic reaction to the product.

Take some benadryl or other antihistamine. Rinse your skin with plain water or a VERY mild soap (think safe for babies). Use a very mild, non-scented moisturizer. After a day of letting your skin rest, try applying some Cortisone cream, it will help with the inflammation. DO NOT use any salicylic acid or benzol peroxide creams, it will be too harsh for your skin right now.

Right now you need to let your skin heal, not try to speed up the clearing of acne. i know it's hard to resist trying to get rid of the pimples, but they will go away faster if you let them be. Use only very very mild soap and moisturizer, no acne medications.

If after a week there's no improvement, go see a doctor (even a regular doctor can help you with this). Tell them you broke out after using proactiv and you've been only using mild products (if any) since then. If you try cortisone cream, tell them that, too.

Most of all, be patient and let your body heal itself.

Good luck.

This is the first time I've heard a negative review about Proactive. I get acne around my cycle as well, but what I use is a combination of Glycolic acid and Retin-A. This will dry you skin but shrinks the pores and gives your skin a deep exfoliation which may brighten your skin and diminish some of the scares. You will need a prescription for both meds.

Try using a mild soap like Dove, Ivory, or Cetaphil, which is a cleanser in a bottle. All should be unscented, just to see if it clears up. Otherwise, you will have to see a Dermatologist. You can call your insurance company to find out if it's covered.

Try to eat lots of veggies and water rich food to hyrdate/ clean your system...

Also a natural cleansing mask as your face may still have the proactive treatment hidden in the pores...

Try to research some natural remedies (lemon is a great natural cleanser!!) as maybe your skin is too sensitive for all those chemicals. And not to get too personal but if your on any type of birth control look into maybe switching to one known to fight acne as it is typically hormonal.
