This isn't derogatory by the way. I agree a solution is needed, but don't see anything but a bunch of Bubba's saying "deport em".

"deporting em" isn't the solution. What happens when you have nobody to produce the goods? Inflation. Importing goods and increased taxes onto the consumer. If you instantly remove that many workers from the market it creates a massive shortage which creates huge loss of industry.
So again, a viable solution?

First, I am not a hater of anybody, I just oppose illegal immigration. You want a solution? Here it is and I hope at least some lawmakers will use it - I don't care about any credits for me personally, just take it and use it.

Of course, it's not possible to deport every single illegal. But making employers who claim they need workers financially and legally responsible FOR THESE WORKERS LEAVING the country when their employment ends, would make sense, to me. For example, you run a meat processing company and need 2,000 workers to work at your factories. You petition me, the government, and I authorize you to bring those workers from Mexico or Russia or wherever. But in our contract, we have a provision that if a worker stops working for you, you have to make sure he or she will leave the country immediately. Meaning, you put that worker on a bus or a plane and then provide me with a document proof that the worker has left the US. If you don't do that, you suffer legal and financial consequences.

So, how about that for a starter?

For the record: I am a recently naturalized LEGAL immigrant.

The most viable solution is interior enforcement focused on those who employ illegals. It doesn't have to be a pervasive form, like the SAVE act, either, it can just be more raids, but with much more severe consequences for the employers.

Employers are pragmatic, if they realize that the consequences of being caught are extreme enough that it's not worth the risk, they'll stop employing illegals. When illegals can't find work here, they'll go somewhere they can find work (I don't care if it's 'home' or Canada or Mexico, as long as it's not here). When potential immigrants realize that there is work in America only for legal residents, they will come legally, or not at all.

This must be combined with an absolute denial of mass Amnesty, now or ever.

Once that is done, deportation can proceed against any hold-outs who remain, and the borders can be secured with a more practical level of effort.

Of course, it would also make sense to deport any illegals that come to the attention of the government - either by committing crimes or by accessing social services or by marching in pro-illegal demonstrations.

Ok well you start off wrong with the whole haters bit. I'm not a hater. I'm surrounded by illegals where I live and I don't hate them. I know they are just trying to make a better life for themselves and they are hard working decent people. Still they are leaving a poor country with a corrupt government to come to our country and they are driving down wages and the standard of living here. Wish there was room for all of them but there is not. you can't just let an entire country move in. We need a better immigration policy true but I really don't think our policy is worse than most countries. Under Mexican law, it is a felony to be an illegal alien in Mexico and they deport more illegals than the USA. Big business wants illegals to be here so they can take advantage of them. Once they become legal then they won't work in bad conditions, for low wages, no benefits. If we made all illegals legal today they would be replace soon with other illegals. Take away the fear and problems of being illegal and they will stop working for such low wages. US citizens would happily do these low end jobs but not for low pay and no benefits. So I guess the answer is stop the illegal immigration and yes make it illegal to hire illegals(really just enforce the laws we have now). No need to deport them because they will leave on their own when they have no jobs. The maybe they will have to fix their own country. There is plenty of money in mexico for everyone there to have a better life but the rich and the corrupt government are keeping it all to themselves. In 2006, a total of 1,266,264 immigrants became legal permanent residents of the United States. It's not like we keep all immigrants out and I'm tired of the bashing we get when we are not really that bad.

The solution is as simple as common sense. Enforce the laws that make sense and get rid of those that don't.
Prime example. Plyler V Doe where the self appointed gods of the Supreme Court decided that even though it was against the law for them to be here they would make it against the law to deny them an education...that makes no sense.

While we are at it we could do away with Sanctuary Cities...again it makes no sense to have immigration laws if some cities, most of which are populated by illegal aliens, decide that they will ignore the law.

Attrition through enforcement. Once we have eliminated all of the nonsense items and start enforcing the law, the illegals leave on their own accord. This has been shown to work in states like Oklahoma where, after passing stringent laws, the illegals simply left in droves.

I'm not an illegal immigrant hater, but I do dislike the negative effects illegal immigration has on our country. Deporting them is actually a very sensible solution. No, I don't mean have a manhunt and round them all up.... but ones who are caught commiting crimes. They're already in custody, why release them back onto the streets here in America? As for the ones who are deported and sneak back... proper border security could solve that problem.
To recieve any type of welfare, you should be required to confirm your social security number and identity. This would stop abuse of social services.
Employment to illegals must stop. No, we can't stop all of them since some have stolen or fake social security numbers... but employers can stop accepting social security numbers that consist of all zeros. Those employers are knowingly hiring illegal immigrants and should be fined.
This obviously won't solve the entire problem, but would be a good step in the right direction.

Secure the border and stop the influx. Enforce the laws by fining the employers who hire them and the landlords who rent to them. Do not give them any government assistance that is meant for legal citizens of this country. Stop making the anchor babies citizens. Citizens should be born to legal residents of this country. If you take away all that entices them to the free life they are stealing, then they will go away on their own. I think if the taxpayers stop having to pay extra high taxes to cover the illegals, stop paying extra high insurances, both medical and auto, the higher rates are because of all the uninsured, then we will have more dollars to spend on the so called higher prices of goods when the illegals are no longer working for sub par wages. The education our children receive will be much better and less overcrowding in the schools. It may seem like a burden to some buy I think it will all balance out once the laws are enforced and America is back to what it should be. A melting pot of good legal citizens working and living for the same thing. No more illegal freeloaders to support.

Well, I'm not a "hater", but I'll give this a shot.

Give the illegal immigrants a reasonable time period to leave the country. The penalty for non-compliance is to be permanently banned from this country. If they are caught after the grace period, they are immediately deported with no opportunity to legally return.

Any business caught employing illegals, either directly, or through subcontractors (can you say "Walmart"? Sure, I knew you could) would be fined some significant amount, say 1% of their gross income, per occurance. That ought to put a shiver intheir spines!

As they leave, provide them with the proper paperwork to re-enter legally, and expedite the paperwork, so they can return quickly.

Once this project is accomplished, begin expediting others who want to enter legally.

This assumes that once legal, they will be subject to the same laws as any other legal immigrant, including the opportunity to become a full citizen. This step, however, would be the same as it is now, with education and testing.

Now here's what's wrong with this plan, and why it won't work.

Businesses who employ illegals don't do so out of the kindness of their hearts. They do it because they can pay them ridiculously low wages, and don't have to pay payroll and FICA. Everybody blames the illegals for not paying taxes, but the employers aren't paying them either. And they are legals. They're just cheating th ereat of us poor disenfrancized tax payers in a much bigger way, and hiding behind the false respectability the legal system and the society affords them because they are assumed to be operating legally.

Do you think those employers want to pay higher wages, want to pay taxes and FICA, want to subject themselves to the various government agencies that protect workers rights?
Hell, no!

And that's what business will say to my proposal above, and I've given the reasons why that will happen.

Don't look for a solution to this problem any time soon.

The only solution would be for conditions in Mexico to improve. Mexico is not a poor country, but the wealth there is concentrated in too few hands. The Mexican government needs to step up, change its tax laws, and institute programs that would create jobs -- in Mexico. President Calderon, if you're reading this, get off your duff and get a move on.

Institute prison sentences as a third offense for hiring illegal immigrants. Make the first two offenses punishable by heavy fines or lengthy jail terms. Scare business owners away from exploiting illegal immigrants and the reason for the illegal immigration will disappear. Pro-any immigration people should began to at least encourage illegals here to begin applying for legal immigration status. Any other illegals caught should be deported; including those in prison, why are we keeping them here at tax payer expense, why not transfer them to Mexican prisons?

Workplace enforcement (per existing laws)
Denial of Social Services (per existing laws)
Completion of the border fence (per existing laws)

The illegals we don't deport will leave on their own.

As for inflation, it won't be much, if any. Goods will get produced. "Jobs Americans won't do" is simply non-sense... it's more like, "jobs Americans won't do for slave wages." Anything that does get outsourced will be offset by no longer having to subsidize those workers through social programs. Wages will rise (that's what happens with scarcity of labor), and the tax burden will lessen (less people on the dole, less students in schools, less prisoners). Additionally, the quality of our public schools will improve, thus providing increased upward-mobility for American Citizens and Legal Immigrants alike.

(Oh, I'm sorry, was I supposed to say, "path to citizenship"?)
