I am unaware of cooking oil's abilities, however, nothing we have used works better than any type of olive oil. Our one daughter has had lice five times in 11 years. Our other children have never had lice. We have tried Rid and other products, but olive oil always works completely.

There is actually a treatment that involves Olive Oil being put on the head. Problem is you have to make sure that each and every strand of hair is covered so that all the nits and lice are covered completely. The oil will coat the nits and lice and prevent them from breathing - it smothers them. It takes quite a while. Then you have to do the very messy cleanup with getting the oil out of your hair and off your scalp. You still have to do a comb out after that.
It really is best to see your pharmacist and find out the latest and greatest treatment for the little pests.
Best of luck!

I received a note from local school giving parents the heads up on the newest way to treat lice on kids. The deal is that all that over the counter lice medication has created what they call super bugs. These bugs have hatched immune to the poison in the shampoo. The "remedy"is olive oil applied to the hair and scalp thickly then covered tightly with a shower cap.Smothering for 4 to 8 hours then washed and rinsed thoroughly.A metal nit comb and a bottle of cheap detangler will rid you your problems.Wash and vacum everything.

Try Hellmans mayo. cover your head with it and then wrap it with saran wrap for 2-3 hours. The oil kills them. Then (very important) comb your hair carefully with nit comb. The nits come out since the hair is so slick.
Also...this one worked well....soak your hair in coca cola for 10 minutes inthe sink or a bowl. The coke kills the lice and the nits. Comb out carefully.
Also, cetaphil facial cleanser cover your hair and then blow dry til stiff - sleep on it.
Good luck...
Ps wash your hair with tea tree oil shampoo - it repels lice (reinfection is such a bummer)

no but vinegar will
warm it a little put it in your hair leave it in for about 5 to 10 minutes
it really works also if u do this once a week you'll never get them again. i kept my girls from ever getting them during epidemics of it at school( even the teacher had gotten them, the school was shut down for two weeks it was that bad) when they were little
if it irritates ur skin and it might the u will have to buy the shampoo at the drug store
get the comb to get rid of the eggs after u use the vinegar
don't get it in ur eye it will burn
