I have 4 cats and the oldest is 10. Every year they all get the works on shots. Wondering if this is needed, of course the vets will tell you it is........

I have four cats, too, ages 7 to 16, and they are strictly indoors. I do not plan to introduce any more cats for the time being because the two older cats have geriatric kitty illnesses. I have chosen to only get the rabies for mine now. It is the only one required by law.

I don't know if cats build an immunity to FeLV from the vaccinations over the years. Hopefully a veterinarian or vet tech that is more knowledgeable on this point will share some advice. I have dealt with many illnesses and conditions through the years with my cats, but fortunately never feline leukemia.

But if there is any chance that your cats will be exposed to strays or cats that haven't been properly vaccinated, I would continue as you are doing.

Purrs to you and your kitties.

The breeder of my cat sd that unless he goes outside on a regular basis (or the other kitties do) all he needs is a rabies every 3 years. That's all I get him.

If they don't go outside and no cats are coming through (being fostered or watched while their owners are on vacation) it's not necessary to vaccinate against it because they're not in a position to be exposed.

Please don't give your kitties any vaccinations on a yearly basis. There is no research that determines how often cats need to have shots because no one knows how long they are effective.

Please do some reading on the subject. You can go to http://www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article in her article library titled "Vaccination" and also she has updates in her newsletter archives.
