As an agnostic, I sort of agree with you *gasp*
God doesn't have to be a white haired old man who condemns people to burn for an eternity for not worshipping the proper way. Einstein believed in God in the sense that there was a universal order, which he felt was evidenced by science, mathematics, and the existence of perfection.
Emmanuel Kant stated that as humans our knowledge is severely limited - so much so that we cannot rule anything out. The universe is a vast place and there are so many things that are beyond our comprehension that we should never deal in absolutes. Saying you absolutely know that there is no God is just as ignorant as saying that you absolutely know that there is.
Truly open minded people never rule anything out.

I dont think that atheists resent religion at all we just find it very silly and annoying when people harp on about it as if it is true. The difference between atheists and religious people is 'generally speaking' that atheists have read a lot and bible bashers havent so have limited thoughts based on a few anecdotes. Read some science and astronomy and anyone will realise that the world is more than a few unproven prophesies in a book that was written by middle eastern tent dwellers who didnt know any better anyway. Have an open mind.

Speak for yourself. I don't resent anything and I'm not disgusted by religion. You're very presumptuous.
I accept an infinite number of possibilities and I'm depriving myself of nothing. However there is a great difference between possibility and probability. And if I were going to accept the existence of something to the extent that I would base my life on it I would ask for at least a single piece of evidence to support it.

Why can people not understand that atheists are not against others practicing anything? They couldn't care less. They just want to be left alone with their own philosophy of life. The conflict arises when people try to force their beliefs on the atheists.
If there is some thing beyond understanding, well, it will remain so till it chooses to reveal itself.

There are religions compatible with atheism (Buddhism, Taoism, Vedanta, etc.).
Now, if there is such a deity, we cannot speak meanigfully of it, because what we can say IS limited by our understanding. Also, based on the lack of evidence which requires supernatural explanation, if there is such a being, it produces no measurable effect in space/time, and is thus irrelevant.

Is it remotely possible that an all powerful creator MIGHT exist? Sure...it's possible...
But the probability of such a thing actually being true is so slim, I live my life as if there was no such deity.
In the end, I don't think the deity will hold it against me. If they refuse to prove their existence, they shouldn't be surprised when people don't believe....

"God beyond any human definiton"?
Ha.
Don't make me laugh.
Thats the problem fool!
All of the religions try to define this God.
They are all messed up in the head.
One moment they'll realize God is beyound definition.
Then the next they'll refer to it as a He or a She.
One moment they'll say "You can't say what God thinks or feels, because who are you to say such a thing?"
Then the moment they'll say "God hates it when..."
You guys make no sense.
Either god is to great for our so called "puny little minds", or he is on our level. Make up your mind.
Personally I think all the religions have to put God on our level to personify him. Otherwise they'll feel like they're talking to a wall.

It takes a lot to "disgust" me nowadays, so I don't resent a group of people who believe whatever they believe. I work to educate and fight for rights, but I do so with as much compassion as I can muster. Oh, and as a Buddhist, yes, I'm essentially atheist, but I'm not deprived nor disgusted.

I'm an atheist because I don't belive God is real.
I'm resentful towards religion because of all the bad it has done in the world.
The two issues are totally seperate.

Many atheists have a spiritual life. You may be right in your assessment, though. Personally, I leave open the possibility of god existing (like most atheists), I simply don't believe one does, as there is no evidence at this point.
