I've tried the exact same thing and it sadly does not work. Looks like we'll have to stick to CDs huh?

No, you can't. The only way to fecord music from PS3 is to use an adapter - red RCA/white RCA to whatever analog jack you're using on your recorder, most likely 2.5 mm mini jack (most common on PCs, walkmans, majority of MP3 players), 3.5 mm jack (common on home sound system). another RCA (red/white) input (common on hi-fi, hi-end and professional recorders).

you cna only plug things into the usb port
not play music out them
thats why our TV has speakers
